Yeah it can be definitely be hard! Sure, I got some tips. Using daylight works well both indoors and outside. If you have direct sunlight it helps to turn the painting away from the sun 45 degrees
If you're using lamp light you'll have to experiment a bit. You'll want to have the light source at 45 degrees to your painting, two light sources being ideal. Example: [link] (Scroll down a bit).
If you're ever having problems with color you can use photoshop:
Image>Adjustments>Levels>Auto
or:
Image>Auto color

So he got me a Doctor who tee shirt, but he did the same thing you did to david. I unwrapped the box and it was a just a box of Christmas lights, which i wouldn't have been disappointed with, but then i was like he's doing it too isn't he? Tricking me with light bulbs before i can get to the delicious Doctor who inside.
