This is gorgeous! I love the everything about it... and I totally dig her braid. But really, the picture and the words... it can be interpreted in so many ways. It's amazing! <3

This has a very sinister overtone to me, although on the surface it's a very sweet sentiment. It is very simple, as your description says, but there's also a lot that can be read into it. Which is awesome.

i can see that...and i love the fact that so many people have seen so many things with this image...it might be that since you cannot see either of their faces you cannot tell if she is frightened by the physical contact or by the question

That and just the way the adult brushes their hand against the child's neck...it's a little ambiguous whether that's well-intentioned or not. The more I look at this, the more I like it.

This is interesting... I guess I like the wording, with the "I'm curious about that". I don't see a lot of collages on the front page so this was a nice little surprise :]

To those who commented on the way the words were written; they were put that way for a reason, nir to make reading them easy at a single glance.

That's part of the beauty of poetry... You can't just skip past and ignore it. It makes you stop and actually read.

My poet (and lit. grad) words of wisdom on poetry

LordCorvell In reply to laBaroque [2012-12-03 00:28:04 +0000 UTC]

I'm going back to re-read the cause of all this... Where was the difficulty coming from...? Don't tell me people are complaining about no comma between the first two lines...?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

laBaroque In reply to LordCorvell [2012-12-05 22:07:39 +0000 UTC]

There were varying opinions, such as on the way the words were divided and so forth, making people reread to understand. It seems the artistic quality of this piece was confusing people.

LordCorvell In reply to laBaroque [2012-12-07 07:02:32 +0000 UTC]

That's a shame, I thought it read perfectly... Three short-word sections haha... Makes me wonder if I never read it correctly in the first place.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

laBaroque In reply to LordCorvell [2012-12-08 15:42:28 +0000 UTC]

Which bears questionning... Is there a correct way to read poetry in the first place? Ever since the beginnings of modern poetry, it has mostly been about new ways of writing, reading and interpreting poetry. So is there really a rule, a specific way?

Of course not, else E.E Cummings wouldn't have a name for himself!

ScottMan2th In reply to Lahuko [2012-12-02 20:44:44 +0000 UTC]

thank you for your insight.

the words were broken up
this particular way in order to
prevent them from overlapping
the main image, which might
have been more distracting

poirierm [2012-12-02 15:43:07 +0000 UTC]

yeah I'm agree with the coma thing...funny how English is so easily confusing without a tiny pixel. Oi.
It's a great piece otherwise

ScottMan2th In reply to poirierm [2012-12-02 21:56:11 +0000 UTC]

even with commas, i find many things i read
very confusing. it seems odd that there are
magazines that seem to be excluding simple
punctuation from their publications for
budgetary reasons...or at least at one time
i was under that impression...might have been
newsweek or time....but my information is rather
old on this particular topic

FrederikkeSchwarz [2012-12-02 14:25:00 +0000 UTC]

A simple comma could have saved me from alot of confusion about the first sentence :-P

ScottMan2th In reply to FrederikkeSchwarz [2012-12-02 21:02:04 +0000 UTC]

*grin* if the author of the found sentence had been thoughtful enough to have included one, i would have most certainly have used it and thus prevented such an egregious departure from proper syntax formalities, but alas, such was not the case.
