Name:
Rijed (rij-eed)
Gender:
Male
Age:
24
Race:
Abeybalgua
Height:
5’9” (not counting ears)
Tribe:
Morzenan
Ancestry:
Family used to be Tenire before switching over to a more nomadic lifestyle; he went Morzenan a few years ago on his own.
Occupation:
UHHH LESSE. He’s involved in trading, but he doesn’t carry any sort of merchandise himself. He’s more of a middle man that will hook people up with buyers/suppliers. You need the thing? He can prolly find you the thing. He’s also something of an information broker; he travels a lot so he tends to be informed about what’s going on with who and where. (but this is a service that’s a bit more on the down low)
Companion:
NONE.
Likes/Dislikes
Good: -> money, people owing him favors, being in control
Bad -> people with no sense of urgency, being misled, being out numbered
Personality:
He’s very careful and calculating in his actions and typically won’t do something if he can’t fully predict the outcome. His job sometimes comes with a lot of risks so knowing as much as he can is very important to him, and it’s sort of turned him into a control freak. And it’s not just with situations, he’s very wary of people he’s unfamiliar with; although it tends not to show. He won’t act like he doesn’t want to know you or like he doesn’t want to be around you or anything, his trust is just very hard to earn. Also due to the nature of his work, he can seem a bit shady or suspicious. He likes to hang back and wait for useful tidbits of information, or will be deliberately creeping around for it. Nosey bastard. Beware, introverts; if you're quiet or shy or otherwise unsociable with him, he assumes you're hiding something from him.
History:
Like it says in his ancestry, his family originated in the Tenire Tribe. His family, along with a mix of three others, were independent traders that eventually came together and started travelling together in one big caravan. It wasn’t meant to be a permanent thing, but they ended up liking the security of a large group as well as the lifestyle. The caravan became their home, and most of them sold their actual houses. Rijed was born and raised in this group, and life was pretty decent. His parents, however, never really educated him about the bad people in the world; as far as he was concerned—basically being raised by a small community—everyone was inherently good natured and treated everyone else like family. They never specified things like why he shouldn’t believe everything he hears, or how he shouldn’t stray so far from home. One day while he was away from the caravan (he often wandered; no good reason not to) he ended up meeting a few strangers. These strangers were actually bandits that were part of a much larger group, but being the ignorant child that he was, Rijed saw no danger in them. After hearing about how he was from a trading caravan, they convinced him to lead them back to where the caravan was camping for that day. Later that same day the caravan was attacked by the bandits, many of the traders were either killed—including Rijed’s father—or lost everything. It didn’t quite hit him that it was his fault until he realized everyone left alive kind of silently hated him, even his own mother grew pretty indifferent towards him. They never kicked him out or anything, but bonds were severed and they inevitably grew apart. Rijed lived with them for a few more years after that, until one visit to the swamplands. He met another trader there who was willing to take him on as an apprentice, so he and what was left of the caravan (despite the incident, trading was still their lively hood and those left were still very close, aside from Rijed) parted ways for good. Rijed still wasn’t that great a judge of character, and the trader he became involved with was not very ethical or anything like the people he grew up with. Unfortunately, he didn’t have anywhere else to go so he stuck with the man. Legal or not he ended up learning a lot, and somewhere along the way he figured it’s best just to not trust anyone.
Other:
Characteristically of his species, he’s very easily confused for the opposite gender. He’ll use this to his advantage whenever he can, but he can’t really maintain any sort of act because his voice is recognizably male. But overall he’s pretty effeminate.
He lost most of his tail during the incident with the bandits; something about teaching him a lesson about not listening to his parents. The ears came later during his apprenticeship. He and his mentor sometimes got into situations and they didn’t always get out unscathed.
