Description: The royal preyguide is a small meat-eating bird that roams the plains looking for prey or carcasses. The preyguide is a species of honeyguide that evolved to become a partner to the glutton monitor, which mainly eats meat. This means it has become completely dependent on meat. There are many species of preyguides, each one specialized to have a symbiotic relationship with a different species of predator. Some preyguides even help leoboons to find herds of grazing animals for them to hunt.
The royal preyguide is tan in color on the head, light tan on the belly, light brown on the tail, and mahogany on their wings. The beak helps it to tear into the meat and helps it to kill prey. The claws of the preyguide help it clings onto the branches of trees where it nests. The trees also provide them a way to hang their prey if they want to save their prey for later. The royal preyguide has a symbiotic relationship with the glutton monitor, as previously mentioned. The preyguide will find a glutton monitor and get the monitor’s attention with a distinct call that the monitor knows. The preyguide will then lead them to prey or a carcass. This prey or carcass to either far too big for the preyguide to kill or too tough for the preyguide to tear into by itself. The glutton monitor will tear the carcass or kill the animal, and give some of the meat to the preyguide. Some preyguides will live near a glutton monitor’s burrow to have a monitor near them at all times. This makes the royal preyguide a great small predator of the Congo Savannah.
