AS FAR AS THE ART FORM I WAS GOING FOR: I tried to sorta imitate the very old narrative art style of Japanese handscrolls here. The few I’ve seen in museums are hallways long when they’re laid out, but you’re actually supposed to slowly unroll and roll the scroll, taking in the little scenes that flow into each other along the length of the image. It really gives you a feeling of the passing of time and traveling with the characters that keep reappearing along the way, which is awesome. This illustration of course, is something of a much smaller scale, but I still think it is best viewed where the image fills your screen top to bottom and you slowly scroll from left to right in order to see the “story”. (and you'd have to download it to do that because I'm a fool and can't figure out how to get DA to display it at that size, I'm really sorry for the inconvenience everyone/judges) In more traditional examples of this artform, the various scenes of the main story are usually separated by clouds or plants and other natural elements, but I wanted to show that Roza’s story here was just a small part of the madness happening during this event, so I used cameos of other soldiers ^^ (I still have a long long list of people I want to draw still!)
