Toril, already worried about potential threats from outside, took these words very seriously. It has become clear to her that what is good and safe lies within Skydas's borders - even if they are not exempt from the Island's culling, as the stones show so clearly. As the time passes and she commits herself to following the orders of the Wardens, and reinforcing the border, she begins to think that perhaps she could do some good for the pack to whom she owes so much.
If I can't even protect myself-- well, then I have to learn, so that I can protect others.
