this is lovely, the shape reminds me of a woman. what was your inspiration?

Inspiration? hmmm, the stone itself, Larry Andreoff (my mentor) and my imagination.

You are too kind. There are far far better sculptors in the world than me.

I can see a dancing woman with flowing hair and garment. I hate it when there are fractures, the tip of one of mine broke right as I was finishing it (put it back together with wax), and another one cracke off completely. Lovely work

There is a line of black on the "woman"'s chest which is a fracture point. I had to crazy glue it so it didnt pop off.

Thank you. I have to thank a few deviators for the refining as they gave me some much needed photoshop pointers.
Keep fighting the good fight.

It is magic, pink Chinese soapstone ... soapstone is lovely to move a chisel through but a bastard for chipping at just the wrong time isn't it! This is a lovely piece, you have a real feel for natural curves - an imperative for quality sculpture because you can play off smoothness against deliberate aberations for great effect ... well done!

Indeed it is! YAY someone else whose tried it! I sliced open my finger on this piece when a chunk flaked off unexpectedly. 8 stitches later...

... I was going to say soap stone has cost sculptors more blood than any other material ...

INDEED, except for those who use their own blood as a patina.
I've never actually heard of that, but I have heard that urine stains metal nicely, and someone made a portrait of the queen of england out of elephant dung.

Well, I happen to LIKE "the best you could do" very much, and as I said, this one has a personal connection as well. I couldn't even see the woman from the image on your website--lovely. Lovethe lines in the "hair" here especially.
Sigh--no choice but to fave, I'm afraid...
