Yeah.... Things will never be the same now. As the opening of volume 2 says...

Hmm, ironic how that was the opening to one of the volumes when things were great and there was no death, dismemberment, or sheer chaos. We were all naive back then. We never could have guessed things would get so bad. But when the devastation began, it came upon us fast and now all we can do is try to remember how things used to be when we were still blissfully ignorant as we solemnly await the unknown horrors that may surface in Volume 4.....

I doubt he's given up yet despite that failure. And I don't think they hide his face so carefully unless there was something significant under that mask that they don't want us to see yet. MAYBE HE HAS SILVER EYES!!!

Yeah! He'd be a bit of a rebel to the cause those warriors were meant to defend. And you know that move he does with the epic slice in slow-mo that makes reality turn into colorful leaves or something? Maybe that's a manifestation of him using the power of his silver eyes. No one said it looked the same in use for all warriors.
