CLASS: JOKER

Considered the lowliest and weakest of the Jokers, Caterpucker are scarcely larger than Slipstick and may seem completely incapable of self-defense or even any real awareness, slowly inching in random directions and constantly puffing out their facial features with an irritating squeak. Other Jokers often treat them as pets, playthings or food, and they themselves feed only on the waste of other creatures. Some, however, display an exceptional degree of intelligence for their kind; and an incredibly tiny fraction exhibit varying degrees of telekinetic skill.

Every so often, a Caterpucker is born of mad brilliance and psychic potency rivaling any other form of Joker, and Jokers sane enough to hold a conversation firmly believe that a Caterpucker of unfathomable power created all Jokerkind from its own madness; including itself.

This little guy is based on the dreaded POB [link] from UK children's television. We didn't have him in the U.S, but kids across the sea still seem to exchange tales of the nightmares he inspired. I've always been a big fan of things that were supposed to be cute but came out eerie.

I was also inspired by those weird rubber peanut-shaped toys you can squeeze to make their eyes, tongues and ears bug out. I don't know what to call those, but they're a classic I'm sure lots of you have seen.

Some have asked me to illustrate the Joker "queens" that I've mentioned, but I actually use the term so loosely I might drop it. I picture them as mindless, immobile piles of pink fluff, like cotton candy, housed in deep pools.
