Description Bourkha(s)

Part of Speech: noun
Definition: a long loose body-covering garment with veiled holes for the eyes, worn by some Muslim women; also written burqa, bourkha, burkha, burga, burqua; also called chador
Etymology: Arabic burku

---

I have to admit that I am really really fond of these photos and hope it gives you the creeps. I personally of course have a critical approach with this piece, but in no way want to say anything against Muslim's beliefs itself. See this piece the way you want..be it empty bourkhas or not..
You might also be interested in much far older piece "Veil to Silence ".

On a sidenote; this small image does not do it justice.

Your pictures never cease to make me stop in my tracks and think of exactly what may have been going through your head to get these brilliant ideas. Wonderful, and fav.

i've just had a look at some details and now know why these photos work so well together, even if they show nearly the same.
on the horizon there are only two trees that really stand out, naimly the high one's to the left and the birch. the only appear in the left one, so that you can't find the twice in the whole work. they are also a good end of the photo.

the rest of the horizon is rather flat. the repeating elements are the oval tree, the house and the pylon. First, the tree. On the left picture it has another small tree right to the left. On the right picture, the small tree is cut, this creates a difference, so the ovale tree doesn't stand out in a disturbing way. The house is just so flat, that it's nearly just a line, a repetition isn't really visible.
The most visible repetition is the pylon, but the ironc thing is that pylons are repetitions in landscapes, they all look nearly the same, so a pylon and another pylon is nothing special, nothing that would take away from the harmony of the photowork !

The mood in this one is really dark. Looking at it i feel fear and curiosity at once. it seems as if there was something hidden, something you're not sure if you want to find out.

I also see the resemblance with the bourkhas in the image of course, i would say this and the mood together build a quite strong impact on the viewer.

I'm slightly disappointed this didn't get much more feedback than it did Lia
I personally feel it's one of your strongest pieces in terms of the concept because of how it relates to the world now and how important the idea of bourkhas are in certain cultures today, and causing conflict and controversy in so many more.
This image certainly did give me the creeps The blues are so harsh and cold in this I almost shuddered when I saw this, you've created such a dismal and depressing backdrop to the pile of bourkha's there.
I can only imagine who left them there, and because this image has forced me to use my own imagination to continue on with the suggestions in the photographs, I know you've done a brilliant job
I enjoy the coupling of the two shots too, it's certainly unique and at first glance I thought it was the same shot only reflected until I looked closer.
Brilliantly done Lia, a wonderfully thoughtful and mature piece from you

what is bourkhas didnt understand. is it some kind of shroud. do you know shroud. it is white cloth. I am Muslim too. In Muslim belief we cover the dead body with white cloth named shroud before inlay.
In Muslim belief muslim women covers their hair with head scarf. i can tell you many many reasons but some muslim women does not. everybody has got a personal belief. Koran includes a big freedom inside. The rules are certain and technology and science prooves all. scarf suits you. some kind of obssesion

LOL i'll tell you wat it is (iam a musilm as well) i doubt they wear them in Turky ....

The ppl of the Gulf are known for wearing them.... I don't really think they're for "muslims" but they're more of an "arab cluture" thing it's just when a woman covers her face with a cloth (witch is normally black) and nothing but her eyes show and like DUH she'd be wearing Hejjab ( a head scarf)
I hope i helped!

you mean the black ones. starts from the head and covers all body. yeah these are i think from old time to trvel in deserts. but today's civilization doesn't need that kind of clothes in this century because technology is making our life lighter. but to understand the lives at that century and to understand their suffers, yeah some of our women can wear. but today i think in normal life there is no need. because of our modern civilizations. Seafairy is the one from this century and her scarf is from that century. She is carrying these two centuries with her lovely face and shiny eyes. If we look from this perspective, [link] "Veil to silence" is one of my favourite in DA with its synthesis of two centuries.
She is so beautiful and if she does know what is she doing with looking from all these perceptives. She is the one of my favorite artist in DA.
Hey Lia you can see these comments too yeah?

I've had this collage in my msg centre for a couple days right now and I still feel really inflouenced by its atmosphere.

I find it so sad and desolated.

i love the contrast between the subjects on the forgrounds and the trees' silhouettes.

also the way you've decided to propose it(?) increase that sensation.

two different shots, but they are symmetrical in some way and the balance each other.

i can't say I love it (as actually I don't love that much to feel sad ) but you surely impressed me once again with your amazing art

I think this photo reflects life very nicely Lia... and it just suits it well
The low tone colours, and the darnkess, and not to mention the great contrast are perfect.. They set for the scene very well.. They help the mood out, and the atmosphere be a little darker

I prefered to see it as a disposed coccoon instead of a Bourkha, and since we can't see who disposed of it in the images, i like to imagine whomever they were from is now something we can no longer touch or see which is now wandering freely throughout all the existant dimensions
