YAY!!! here we have our entry for Team Jumping at SAGITTARIUS STABLES GRAND OPENING FESTIVAL

Sherry and Cavan are competing alongside *Greatalmightyqueen 's Connor and Marylin, and *ArwenAmidala 's Rebecca and Gypsy.

The curry comb worked its way across the mare’s neck. Circles, growing larger and larger before spreading across her shoulder and back, pausing to ease the itch the mornings exercise had sparked. With a sigh the mahogany mares head lowered, ears flopping and bottom lip quivering and dimpling in pleasure. Cavan smiled. There was nothing more relaxing than a good ride and the soothing repetition of a grooming. She had been bathed and brushed to perfection already but in such a strange new place they both needed the extra contact and support.

They had arrived four days ago, their first time in America and their first jumping competition together. Sherry had recovered from the plane perfectly and though showed a marked dislike for the taste of the water, which was fixed with a little apple juice to flavour, she had acclimatised better than he had hoped. They had been working since then, getting used to the temperature and humidity, their bodies adjusting each day until they had adapted.

Now he was waiting. The two stalls next to him for the other members of the team had remained empty, granted they were on the same continent, but he had expected them to arrive before now. He knew they had been in contact before, breeding’s, purchases and the like, but why his cousin had decided to send him off to compete with complete strangers he would never know. He had hoped Ryan would come and enter with Porthos but the stallion still was too unruly unless it was Cavan, each try sending Ryan trotting back towards the Mare barn and his beloved broods.

Ducking behind her he began again on the other side, each wave of circles followed by a smoothing stroke of his hands, her hide shimmering, rough hands causing the hair to shimmer, smooth and soft. His breathing fell into time and before long all thoughts had vanished.
Shoulder.
Spine.
Girth.
Belly.
Flank.
Hip.
Rump.
Placing the brush back on the shelf he rested his palms on her back, the small dip between withers and barrel, running his hand down and feeling the slow movements of her breathing. Soothed and calm he unconsciously leaned in and pressed his ear to her. Ba DUM, ba DUM, ba DUM, the sound of each beat steady and slow. The smell of horse filling his nostrils as he completely relaxed.

A loud clatter at the end of the barn brought Cavan and Sherry’s heads up within moments. A large Warmblood was being led down towards their end of the stalls. Still covered in traveling gear the horse pricked its ears and snorted eyeing the new surroundings as it stepped past their stall. The man leading it glanced away quickly, avoiding his eyes as if he had intruded on something a bit too intimate. Unlatching the stall door one down he led the horse in and latched it, disappearing into its depths.

Cavan smiled, one at least had arrived.

He strolled down after stowing the grooming kit away and stepped up to the stall door. The other bloke had undressed the horse, revealing one of the prettiest buckskins he had seen, a silver one at that, the only horse he had seen that came close had been Jama when he covered Wren. A quick glance down revealed the lack of certain items that the aforementioned silver had.

The mare snorted, tossing her head at the stranger and with a smile Cavan extended his hand.

“Cavan Boal, I’m the one from KhanCohban, I’m riding Sherry in the team jumping with you.” His hand hung in the air between them.

The darker bloke stood there, startled and more than a little annoyance flashing across his face before a serious and strained politeness emerged. Slowly placing the folded rug across the door he gave a quick squeeze and released.

“Connor”

Cavan smiled, nodding his head before turning to the mare.
“And who is this sexy silver bombshell? You’re stunning, you are.” Offering his palm a soft grey muzzle dipped in, blew out a few breaths before turning her head like a princess and allowing him to scratch her behind the ears. Letting out a chuckle he obliged and after a quick scratch he turned back to the still quiet Connor standing watching him.

“So I expected you and the Dark Shadows lot a day or so back. You’re cutting it close and now we won’t have enough time for a few pub nights to get to know each other. Ah well I guess we will just have to cram it in. I can’t wait to meet the other bloke, it should be a riot of a time, though I will admit I’m bloody nervous about competing all the way over here. Looks like it will be a stiff competition by the group that’s set up shop.” He paused, big smile on his face and waited for Connor’s response.

After a lengthy pause with Connor unwrapping the shipping bandages and not making eye contact, Cavan decided to continue, deciding the poor fellow was shy and needed someone friendly to pull him out of his shell. So he turned to the subject that had brought them together.

“So what’s your girl’s name? She looks like a model, though one with a long face” he chuckled and nudged the man’s arm as he placed the rolled bandages in a tub.

This earned him another annoyed look before he went back to sorting the rest of the items. Closing the lid he straightened and finally answered. “Marilyn, she’s an American Warmblood and I don’t own her.”

“Let’s hope this little lady keeps her skirts down, at least till the after party.” Chuckling he turned back to the mare stroking her nose and glancing back at Connor.

Connor almost visibly flinched at the joke, almost. With barely contained emotions he mentioned that he wanted to find the office and take a look at the layout of the guest stables. They both paused looking up as another duo walked down towards them.

The horse and woman paused as they neared them, ducking a small nervous smile as she passed the woman unlatched the door between a curious Sherry and the other three. Settling her horse she began the same ritual of undressing, folding and rolling. Cavan’s thoughts skewed as he realised he had never been told that all the riders where men, nope Frank didn’t mention it, though she should have if she knew one of them would be rather attractive, although he was sure Connor was easy on the eye in his own way. He cleared his throat.

“I’m Cavan” he jabbed himself in the chest before clapping Connor on the shoulder “and this here is Connor. I’m guessing you’re the last member of the team, If so you have perfect timing we were about to take a tour” winking at Connor he stepped forward and offered his hand. “No doubt we will all have a cracking few days of getting to know each other ahead of us, but while you settle your mare?” she nodded, “I have to run off and see a man about a dog” with a cheery wave and a tug on Sherry’s ear on the way past he strolled around the corner and out of sight.

Connor and the woman locked eyes, He nodded and she ducked her head, a nervous raise of her hand and a small “Rebecca” then she turned back to fussing around the mare, his answering nod seemed all that they required and seeming to have agreed they both retreated to the safety of their horses and did their best to seem busy.

Sherry’s ears where pricked, her breath was short huffs as she stared at the arena. They were next and all the work they had done in the past few months was about to be examined. The rider before them finished, the crowd let out a cheer and the gate was opened for him to enter and begin his ride. With a deep breath he collected the mare and in they walked.

teehee, poor poor Cavan and Connor have no idea how the other works, and Rebecca is trapped with both of them XD it makes me giggle a little.
