Description And we have the final months.

----------------

-MAY-

It was cold. Not winter cold yet but the leaves were gone on the few deciduous trees around the property and the blue grey hue of the Gum’s didn’t add much colour to the misty mornings on the track.

The staff had begun to fray around the edges after such a stressful year and it was obvious to Geoff that while some of the horses were ready to continue their campaigns the family feel of the stable was being compromised. So after a long meeting it was decided the barn would cut back, people would get a long holiday and with Frankie flying in to help Geoff would see about hiring some extra staff to ease the strain.

Days after Esther’s announced retirement the racing fans were reminded that not all of the stud’s horses were out of the game. The seemingly unstoppable mass that was Ark sailed across the finish line to win the Rowley Mile by a head.

With no rest for the wicked Spawn was then to race in the Warrnambool cup. He had shown no sign of change since his previous win, and though Geoff hoped the fire would light in the beast’s heart when he stepped onto the track bettors were calling his previous win a fluke.

Syd sat the colt as they glided to the gate, held on as he rocketed from the gate, kicked him into gear going into the straight and held on. The colt made it to 4th before the wire but to the teams dismay he still lacked the fire, the drive to win that they so needed to arouse within him.

Disappointed the colt was led to the stables and with a heavy heart Geoff new it would be his last race for the season. Short of a miracle over the winter the colt may even be retired his next season.

That left one. One racer of the original ten that would race into winter.

Collie had astounded her improvement from the skittish and scared filly first purchased the mare had blossomed with the love and attention she had received. Within that body burned the heart of a fighter, not fussed to put her fears behind her and dominate.

Entered in the Andrew Ramsden Stakes she ended up being scratched after swelling and heat was detected in her left foreleg the day before the race.

-JUNE-

After the swelling had cleared the now healthy filly was flown north, to the warmth and sunshine of Queensland and to the QLD Oaks at Eagle Farm.

While the now skeleton team headed north with her the two jockeys of KhC Racing left. Holidays for a month in the tropics, to mend the rifts that had appeared over the year. Ozzie was put in charge at home and Geoff began interviews.

With new staff to train Geoff was hesitant to leave and with disappointment missed Collies start in the Oaks. She faded early, visibly off her game as she ran in flat and 11th.

Worried Frankie flew up, and with insistence and a serious amount of pushing shoved the old codger onto a plane and took over the training farm.

-JULY-
Cold, and rain and ice. The weather was not helping the new staff adjust to the schedule and with Frankie in place Ozzie was promoted to barn manager. Something she had yet to tell Geoff, though the man had shown increasing ease in dealing with horse problems as well as human. Although one creature did not warm to the new management.

Spawn was as yet the man’s one problem and though Frankie handled the colt with ease he had yet to actually make it within that demons stall.

Collie on the other hand was flourishing and with Geoff at the helm her training regime was in full swing coming up to the QLD Cup.

Breaking early from the gate the small bay mare led the field from gate to wire after setting deadly early fractions to fight off one after the other closers who tried to steal the feisty mares lead. Having none of it she kicked away displaying astounding speed to win by three lengths.

With this heralded the end of racing for the season. Horses were fuzzy, and training was slackened to allow them to rest and recuperate for next season.

Logan was declared fit to enter stud duty while Esther was to be sent to the Main stud to be retrained and possibly shown before she was retired to broodmare status. Whirly had settled well into HBR and through Wyatt’s updates we knew he was doing well though had yet to make a breakthrough that would indicate his future.

Lucky Lucy was heavily pregnant and seemed ready to pop any moment and expectations were high for the foal.

It had been a long and eventful year for the barn and with frost now covering Disco’s grave everyone finally found a chance to rest.

Temperament: In two words, high strung. She is the sweetest little thing but get her in a situation she isnt familiar with and she gets twitchy! She jumps, jerks and bolts if she can, however she never means to hurt anyone. Hopefully with work and expirience she will lose her nerves and settle into her lifestyle.
History: Purchased from GaQ's short yearling auction she is being aimed for 10+F races. She's got an enormous barrel housing what has to be a fantastic airway, which can only compound her phenomenaldistance dosage. Her legs are slightly on the short side for the rest of her body, but she should be able to run forever.
