Well, 2nd last entry into the Rosendal Show hosted by =Jullelin

i know, we took a MASSIVE amount of horses over... but well we enjoy ourselves there.

sidenote, i know Rio is currently retired and pregnant () but pretend this happened before that.. in this image and race she would be in the early part of her 4 year old racing season.

so yea, just go with it!

Rio had taken the trip hardest of all. With may slightly off her feed and another with travel sick Rio was healthy for a day or two before becoming listless and unhappy. She stopped eating for days and works were halted.

We began to fear she wouldn't recover in time to be able to race but just when we were about to give up she pulled through. Lots of food and sleep later and she was back for the last week before the race.

Woken rudely at 5am for feedign a grooming she was in a bad mood. snarking at the neighboring horses she fidgeted and jumped at every shadow. Gone was aour gentle funny filly, we had a Cranky mountain of muscle on our hands.

A few playups in the mounting yard, almost removing most of another racers tail we faught to bring her back under control. Several jockeys stared at her with shock as she reared, almost unseating Jess.

Finally she was led out, the track pony taking no nonsense as she bumped and jostled trying to get at the crowd. Cantering to the starting gate Jess began to try all her tricks to get Rio to settle, for at this point she was at risk of burning all the energy she had recovered before the race had even begun.

Surprisingly she loaded well, shuffling and squealing once in as she waited for the start.

The bell rang and the horses around her broke fast. Skipping out of the gate Jess tucked her in towards the rail and the Dirt track , covered in puddles began sucking at the competitions legs. Tail slashing Rio was floundering a bit, unused to the surface.

The rounded the corner, heading toward the back stretch, Rio had been sitting at the rear and was still cruising, thankfully haven given up her anger at the challenge of remaining upright in the muck.

The horses had settled and had strung out, heads bobbing as they ate away at the 3200m distance. Early times were slow, mainly due to the weather as the few mudlarks and front runners tried to distance their horses from the closers.

Jess had frozen, allowing Rio to set her own pace at the back, watching warily for any signs of trouble amongst the other runners. Her keen eyes, hidden by the signature pink goggles drank in as much as they could, assesing the speed, energy and position of the favourites.

As the began the final turn she noted the other closers begin to niggle at their mounts. Smiling to herself she nudged Rio, snapping the mares attention into high gear. loosing the reins a fraction they began to close the distance to the leaders, and with only 4 furlongs left it would be an interesting last dash.

lolz crazy stuff man, had way too much fun with motion blur in this piece..

had origionally intended to make it into a walthrough but stuffed it up halfway and ended toing a weird dodge/burn thing instead. Kinda like it, but id need more practice!
