Description Ok, I did the torso up as well, so heres the continued "how to draw" section in manga/comic style crossing! enjoy!

Step One (first you want to draw the space length of the shoulders and chest. the shoulders should be just wide enough to take the head and overlap it so it fits on both sides without going over while the neck is centered. the chest should go from the edge of the face on one side to the edge on the other and the length from neck to the bottom line of the chest should be enough space for the head to fit as well. you also want to draw a line down the center of the body to give an idea of where the chest should be divided. Since the character is turned in this picture the side he is facing should be slightly smaller than the other to give the idea that he isn't facing head on. )

Step 2 (next you want to draw in the back line. We want him to be slightly leaning so you want to give a slight curve to the lower section, remember that the character has an arm blade though, you need to show it at this point at the top and bring the light slightly out from the chest and in the same shape. The ribs curve up, but don't touch the chest and give you the top of your stomach. You want to draw a slightly curved oval for your belly as well. at this point you can see that your spinal or center line isn't going to work as a streight line because he is leaning.)

Step 3 (add curve to the spine so you are centered down the belly and ribs. now we want to add the ovals with the pointed ends to show the muscle at the top of the arms, these should stick out from under the shoulder sockets, but only halfway. no ones arms are a full circle. XD next add the longer ovals with the points that end at the elbows. Though we aren't finishing the arms, we need to know where they are in order to get the perspective right on the torso. )

Step 4 (slightly darken the lines your using and add the circles for the elbows and the cone shape for your lower arms. also if you want you can add the ovals fore wrists and the palm to your hands so you know EXACTLY where your hips are. The wrist should be only slightly lower than the hip. )

Step 5 (add the same style ovals to the hips and draw a 'U' shape for the area between them. the slant of the inside of the legs going up to the hips should show you where the legs join the waist. add the lines to signify the chest plate and the small groove above the center of the chest. this groove is rarely directly under the neck. remember it's not the adams apple, it's the chest plate. under the chest plate lines, which should align with where the arms disappear into the shoulder, should be the lines for the top of your chest where the fat tissue makes them lift slightly. Even males have a small amount, theirs just doesn't curve out as far as a females. Add the rib lines and the pectoral circles. darken in what you need to keep line wise for the clothing which is mostly outter lines of the body. )

Step 6 (add the overlapping circle muscles for the stomach. the outer muscles dip down just below the inside circles. only six of these should be visible above the waist line. the last two are below it. Even men with eight packs have to slide their pants down a bit to show you the muscles under their belly button. )

Step 7 (Add the clothing over the drawing at this point, anything you want. Here is where leaving those body lines in place comes into play. You can see through the shirt where the folds in the clothing should be and where they should not. with loose fitting clothing like this the muscles aren't going to be very visible. Only if the character is wearing tight fitting clothing like leather or vinyl will the muscles start to really show through it. )

Step 8 (Erase the unneeded lines in the clothing, the ones you would not be able to see through it. With the muscles you only want to show the inside grooves, a small piece of the bottom lines near the center and disjointed lines on the inside keep the belly rounded, but leave small pieces of the bottom of each curve there to let the viewer know the muscles are there, don'tt connect the bottom curves to the center line and keep the center line disjointed as well. This gives well defined muscles without looking as if each muscle is literally carved into them. Skin is soft, it doesn't have the same look as a chiseled stone does, it smoothes from one feature to the next. too many lines can make the character look like he is made of rock. Now your characters torso is complete. )

Due to flaming on this peice I have removed commenting. In reply to those who caused this action- IT IS NOT REALISTIC ART. This peice was to aid a friend who was trying a style of art that I tend to do, it's a cross of Manga/Anime/Comic book. It's an exaggerated form of art and therefore not going to look like a real human..

Um... I'm no expert on the human body, but I can tell you there's no point in making a tutorial on anatomy when your knowledge on the subject is... less than satisfactory.

It is ANIME/COMIC cross not REALISTIC... look if everyone is just gonna flame this then please keep it to yourself. this is the third comment given in which none of my previous replies was read. This particular peice got me into the Art Institute by the way, so it obviously isn't that bad.

that was drawn in relevance to how my friend wanted his character drawn. It is also a cross style artwork meaning it isn't supposed to be realistic by any means. It's a pure fantasy character thus pure fantasy design. ^.^ thanks anyway for the pointer but even my style has majorly changed since the last time I was able to upload any work.

? it's comic-manga cross over style. It's not realistic drawings and by all standards of drawing books for either comic or manga it is a decent torso. I was commented on by a college that the drawing progressions I did- including this one- were very good, the best they had seen in a long time for the crossover style that I draw in. Everyone has an opinion though. ^.^
