Description Yay, new fursona-ness!
I've finally had a chance to use my markers! (I got them for christmas! .___. )

So... yah... here she is. I don't really know what else to say

I used Letraset tria markers and high gloss paper (I don't have any marker paper )
The highlights were done in about 30 seconds in Photoshop, I've left my white ink at my mums house T-T

Nifty color blending! ^..^

What kinds of papers are good to use with markers?

Aw, thanks ^-^
I'd love to start using my markers again. They're feeling neglected :<

For this picture I've used some free matte photo paper I had lying around, I was given a huge pack of it a few years ago and hadn't used it at all. I don't print photos, so it was a nice smooth paper to use, but I wouldn't recommend it because of the price.

The marker paper that I've used is excellent though. I have Letraset Tria Markers, and have used them on Letraset Marker Paper. It blends really well and the colourless blender works much better on the official marker paper. I'd recommend using proper marker paper.

Regular paper is too absorbent for blending colours and the ink will bleed slightly around the edges too.
But what ever paper you use, including marker paper, there is always the risk of ink bleeding through to the other side of the paper. So think about what surface is under your picture before you start colouring X3

wow, photo paper. I guess it's still worth it for anything beyond a basic sketch. aka quickie drawing = 1h = 10$US of your time. So a dollar's worth of paper (what's that, a little over half a pound) isn't really that bad to hold ten times it's own value of your work. ^..^

I have Trias too! (and a small set of the pro markers) I didn't know that Letraset sold paper... They have the best art supplies in Britain! i have lots of wonderful art tools and i'm trying desperately to learn how to use them.

I think you mentioned using bristol board a while back, so i tried it and it made a huge difference for colored and graphite pencil work. I use it for anything that doesn't need watercolor paper.

Yes, but make sure it's matte paper not gloss paper X3
But I'd really really recommend proper marker paper

Haha, yes, I suppose so if you think about it like that
It's more the skill that people are paying for though. A professional artist will do a lot better job with the paper and pens than a 4 year old kid using the same paper and pens will X3

Yay! Tri-high-five!
Yeah :3 They have it on their website. But copic marker paper will probably be ok. I've heard that Bristol Board is ok to use too, but I haven't tried it myself.
Aw, thanks -^ ^-
Me too, I have so many things that I go for a while without using them all

Yes! It really does, doesn't it! Bristol Board is insanely good for colouring pencils, it makes the colours really smooth :3
I'm glad you like Bristol Board too ^-^

Yes, but you hasz skillz! So no sweating unnecessarily. ^..^

Do you have any of the redesigned trias? I like that I can see the color inside the barrel. Some people have complained though that they dry out, but I think they just didn't get the caps back on right.

Aw, thankyou ^-^

Yes, all of mine are the new ones :3
Yeah, apparently there was a bad batch of markers that dried out really quickly. It happened to mine - About two thirds of my markers dried up, so I asked Letraset if there was anything I could do to fix that, but they told me to just send them back and they would replace them for me :3
The markers are fine now, they've fixed the problem ^-^

That is very good to know. Most of mine are the old style but I have maybe... 30 of the new ones. I don't think any of them have dried out, but a few have leaked a bit.

Sadly, my local store has decided not to carry them anymore because of that. ;..;

Oh no, that's a shame :<
Letraset's bad batch seems to have really effected their reputation.

Yeah, well, they quite carrying all the calligraphy tips except for the speed balls, so maybe it's just the poor economy.

Mmmm, speaking of nibs. I picked up some awesome ones when I was in Milan. I've been trying to source them so I can buy some more. This place [link] sells little gift boxes that has them in it sometimes. So it's really hit and miss as to getting them that way. I'd like to find out who makes them... somewhere in Tuscany I think...

Wow, those sound so nice :3
I have a dip-pen too, but it's quite basic with basic nibs. It's more for drawing than calligraphy though

ciradrak In reply to seasonaldragon1 [2011-02-17 16:30:50 +0000 UTC]

They're fun! <3

What's good about the expensive ones is that they spread easily, do really fine lines, and have a slightly rounded tip which lets you make effective upstrokes. As apposed to the crow points where upstroke is all but impossible.

(is there a difference between drawing and calligraphy nibs? i mean you can draw with a wide or metal brush as well as doing calligraphy)

I've only visited London once, but the British Museum had a big book/calligraphy exhibit exhibit while I was there. It was so cool.

boofy? I hope thats a good thing! .___.

Thankyou :3
It mostly comes from working quickly and using shiny paper so it doesn't dry as fast so it's easier to get continuous colour
