Coralia remembered a time, dimly, when she had been human. She had worn fine gowns, her hair was coiffed and styled to perfection, every bit a Gibson Girl. Then, on a fateful trip to the Americas, her ship had run afoul of a great storm and sank. That was when she discovered her family's legacy, when she drowned, only to awaken in her current form.

She suspected that she could return to the land, but as her broad tail fin swept through the water, she knew that it would only be to visit occasionally. Here, she was free.
