I thought Jean was the Canto's skipper. Change in command perhaps?

About a century and a half later. Capt. Halstead was the captain of the Canto in 2035, and became President of the Proteus League in 2075, which became the Deep Alliance by 2117, a transplanetary alliance between Mars, Ceres and Enceledaus. The first FTL ships were produced at Ceres Space Station in 2166, and Lara Keyes was the chief administrator there when the third Canto (and the first FTL version) launched.

It's been so long since I read Voyage of the Canto that honestly I don't remember most of it. The one that stuck with me the most was still the first chapter, originally called simply, "Ice".
