Description Hello and thanks for looking...

This is a picture of the submarine Seaview from the old TV show "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea", and is the name I chose a million years ago when I got my first e-mail account.
I modeled the sub in Vue 6 Easel, and made steady improvements after each render. I've posted versions of this model and a .obj version on ShareCG, if anyone is interested.

Thanks, and I'd love to hear your comments and thoughts.

The Seaview is a classic sesign, and this is a very nice render. I can imagine the actors frantically running from side to side as the camera tilts, to give the impression that the sub is being rocked by the explosion!

Hmmm..... very interesting I think I still prefer the original movie version, but I like this one too! It's certainly got the right flavor and character, if maybe a tad too sinister looking though. But I do like it.

I love it! I've still got almost all my voyage stuff from my childhood in the 60's only things I've lost were my remeco toy set on a move to ramstein. Loved the first season the most it was more science fiction the next three were cool tho color and all the monsters. Your really good.

Loved the show as a kid, couldn't wait for sundays at 7pm to see it
I'm a little saddend at how little art I see about the show even the hoakey episodes from the last few years. It's always fun to see some make a picture of a fun show.

OMG! The Seaview! For me, it was not a submarine, it was THE submarine!
Regarding the forward torpedo tubes, I remember an illustration from a comic book collection I had, where they are situated in pairs under the "wings", on pair more centered and more forward, the second more outer and more back, something like the machineguns in a Sabre fighter.

Seaview123 In reply to springheel [2011-12-17 23:50:50 +0000 UTC]

That would work, because I remember seeing an episode where the torpedoes just magically came out from under the manta wings somewhere hidden from the side.

Thanks for the comment, and I'm glad to hear of another fan of the old cheesy series.

So did I, a model I built from a kit. I kept it on a shelf next to my model of the Enterprize from Star Trek, the battleship Iowa, and a 67 Corvette. Ah, memories of my childhood.

I loved that boat. But one thing always bothered me. Where the heck do the torpedos come out?

Seaview123 In reply to Dave-Dreamer [2011-09-22 02:45:00 +0000 UTC]

LOL! I've been wondering that myself! Plus, the flying sub bay is right where the torpedo room should be, not to mention the sonar sphere! In the series they used to come out from underneath the bow, but they never showed the tubes open. Oh well, we'll have to wait until they do a remake or a movie.
Thanks for the comment.

I thought of this weird system where the torpedos are loaded. Then they move forward into launch tubes. The tubes drop down a shaft and exit the bottom of the sub. Then the topedos fire and the tubes retract back into the Seaview.

Hmm, that would be an interesting feat of engineering, but what the hell? It was supposed to be 20 years in the future, as seen from the year 1960.

Dave-Dreamer In reply to Seaview123 [2011-09-26 07:26:17 +0000 UTC]

It was the only thing that made sense to me. Those torpedo tubes were dead center of the Missle Room wall.

Great scene and a great vessel. Never saw the TV series but I dig the movie. Saw it once when I was little but didn't remember much about it until one day in my high school years I was at the mall and in a little glass blower's kiosk amid the standard little glass flowers and birds there was a scale model of the Seaview done completely in glass! Was one of the coolest things ever. Unfortunately this was before the internet and DVDs so it took me a while to track down any copies of the film, but I finally did and it's still got an honored place in my library (and yes, most cheesy, but so cheesy it's cool ) Thanks very much for sharing

Ah yes, the USSOS Seaview. Protecting the world from rubber monsters, evil aliens from the sun and ghostly U-boat captains. Good times from my youth!

Yep, I used to watch it after school as a kid. Then, I joined the Navy and served on submarines. Now I can't even watch an episode because it's so darn cheezy! But I still like the boat. Thanks for your comment.
