Description DESCRIPTION
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ever since my cousin gave me a complete set of art markers, I wanted to draw something for him to thank him. The art marker set was not cheap. It is the Prismacolor marker set, and there are so many colors to work with. It took a while to get going with an idea for a drawing since I was busy trying the markers out for a school project and even my own artwork that I intend to sell as prints on another website. I finally had the time and the skill to draw something for my cousin very quickly. After the past two years of practicing as much as I can, I feel that I have gotten quite a bit faster with drawing. I also saw the opportunity to further practice marker coloring and graphics design practice for my cousin's drawing.
I had originally thought about drawing him a nice 1957 Chevrolet Nomad sitting at the beach, but I wanted to save that for a later project. I instead drew a late 1960's era Nissan Skyline since he seems to like Nissan cars the most. The car is supposed to be a performance variant known as the GTR. I could not find accurate information about the car too well, so my facts may not be entirely correct. The full name for the car is Nissan Skyline 2000 GTR, also known by the name "Hakosuka". Aside from the somewhat similar design feel it has to some Chevrolet or Dodge muscle cars, I think this car is very nice overall. It seems somewhat pocket-sized compared to the American beasts. What I like most about the car is the feel that the design gives off, that feeling of completeness, as if there was no afterthought on any panel of the car's body design. Today's plastic cars seem to lack that quite a bit.
THE SKETCH
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The drawing was done on Canson marker paper with Prismacolor markers. This drawing was the most challenging marker drawing I have completed at the time. The coloring was overdone to add as much realism as possible, and I attempted a very steel-like look with the body color. The initial line sketch was rather tough, too. The car is rather simple in its design, but the cabin shape was difficult to proportion properly. The background graphics was done in burgundy, but for the area behind the car's windows, I was able to pull off a behind-the-glass look with warm gray tones. I guess the combination of that color and the burgundy makes the warm gray look more redder than it should be, which actually works! I know the wheels may have a bit too much cambering. When researching the vehicle online, many of them had their wheels cambered for their racing purposes, so I thought that it would work.

FINAL WORDS
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When it comes to markers, I feel I really need to work on darker tones. I noticed many of my marker art seem somewhat on the light side. But, having started the move to digital medium, I do not know if I ever will. Honestly, I think I'm making too big of a deal with it, haha.
Great work, it seems like some illustration from  a book.
A generationn of Skyline that doesn't get enough love... unlike the new GTR that gets too much in my opinion.
Oh yeah, I agree. Design-wise, I never really liked the new GTR either. It just looks too chunky. They are fast, indeed, but they are by no means the king.
Yeah, and the Nissan guys all claim there is some world conspiracy against the GTR. "The American government hates the GTR because it's faster than the Corvette! It's a conspiracy! ANd the Skyline GTRs are only illegal because they're so fast and it's so easy to make them faster! It's a conspiracy!"
I just want to say "Yeah, it's a conspiracy aimed only at Nissan. Nissan has been singled out even over other fast Japanese cars like the LFA jjust because they're Nissan. Despite there are faster European cars like the Bugatti in America."
"Actually a GTR is faster than the Veyron. Because it's a conspiracy. They're detuning the GTR."
That's probably the biggest reason I dislike the GTR so much. Like the driver is more the cause of animosity even over the car itself. I have never met a GTR owner that I'd want to go out of my way to see again.
Man, I love your art Awesome shading and reflections, you give it a great metallic look! And the camber looks fine, a lot of old "hakosuka" GT-Rs have the wheels like that for drifting
(And the hakosuka nickname means "box Skyline" in Japanese, it's what a lot of enthusiasts call this model.)
Thank you very much! It wasn't easy coloring it!
I looked up more info about the car and mentioned the nickname in the description now.
I imagine it wasn't, but it sure came out great
Ah, yes, I see. This was a great era for the GT-R, I love this car.
