Description One of my favorite themes in Namesake, aside from all the fairy tales, is family love. Namesake is full of little families and full of sibling love. Sometimes, it’s love shared by biological siblings like Elaine and Emma. Other times, it’s the love an adoptive family shares. Alice’s adoptive Wonderland family is definitely an odd one, but also a really loving one. I wanted to draw an image of adult Alice with her siblings Wani, Mug and Lug.

I’m still surprised that in all the Wonderland inspired works I read, nobody seemed to think that having a large group of cheshire cats was awesome. Drawing a litter of disappearing, floating cats is the best thing.

This is a theme I'm totally down with in Namesake, especially when you handle moments like this one. It's just so nice to see when so many other stories push family aside or don't even bother at all.

I love that there is more than one cheshire cat!  I mean... if there IS only one that would make for an interesting story of how he got to be like that, but I like the idea that cheshire cat is a... well... a race... of cats I guess.
