Spoilers for Adventure Time "Holly Jolly Secrets" episode. An episode full of SAD.;_;

Everybody is a sucker for a good tragic backstory. And in the last adventure time, that was delivered for the Ice King. Proving that a) fans love dorky science dudes b) and tragic love stories c) Ooo is a post-apocalyptic world and d) that crown is pure evil. And Jake keeps trying it on.
In my headcanon, Betty didn’t leave after the first time Simon (aka Ice King) tried on the crown. Since the Ice King has been proven to hallucinate in earlier episodes (probably thanks to said crown), I kept imagine her as still there, trying to help him and such. Because, usually, if your fiancé screams at you under weird circumstances, you tend to want to try to figure it out. I think Betty might have stayed until it was too cold/explody for her to stay. Or she died right next to him and he didn’t even notice…
As for the gender-bent universe of Aaa : In the alternate reality of Aaa, i’m thinking it wasn’t Simon who tried on the crown, but Betty. Since Simon found a tiara, he jokingly crowned Betty because she was his princess. Betty when nuts the same way Simon did in the Ooo reality. And she started to kidnap princes because of her nickname. If she’s a damn princess, she deserves a prince! And every time she kidnaps one, she forces him to wear a bowtie.

That's one of the best head cannons for those characters ever. And gives a whole new tradgy to a popular Doctor who phrase:
Gumball: Er, Ice Queen, why am I supposed to wear this?
Ice Queen: Because Bowties are cool. Do you ever need another reason?

I REALLY dig your idea of making Betty the Ice Queen in the Gender-Bender Universe instead of Girl-Simon. It actually does jive with canon because the Ice Queen is considerably hotter and less hobo-like than her male counterpart! LOL
...speaking of Simon, would he still be a chick in your Aaa world? Or would Betty and Simon simply be the only ones who didn't get their genders flipped in the Aaa universe?
And yes, this episode was full of sadness. But strangely enough, all the little kids I saw at the Adventure Time panel at Wonder Con were big fans of it (at least 3 very young children got up to ask the writers questions about that specific episode!)

I think that episode had a bit of a strange structure... because most of it is silly, even a little boring. And then the last 4 minutes makes all the silly suddenly seem like horrible, tangible loneliness and insanity. It's kinda all about not knowing the full story, about judging people before you know them.

is it just me? or is anyone else speculating that gunter was planted there with ice king by marcy to keep an eye on him? we know she is pretty powerfull and 'the most evil thing' marcaline's dad has ever seen.. poor marcy.. maybe now that he saw the pictures and has songs he can at least remember a little? although at the end of the last ep he didn't seem to be registering exactly what he was singing about..

cool! I've also been thinking, because of jake trying it on so much, thats what makes him seemingly sadistic in some scenes( "I'll save the babys. ONLY THE BABYS.", "I feel like I can touch the heavens! and sock angels!", "we can rule them like gods. ANGRY GODS.") lol. I guess that counts as headcannon for me too then. anyway, cool fanast. I like it and I think you did a really good job at capturing the emotion

LOL, not as tragic a reason as Ice King looking for his 'princess' but kind of funny.
Your theory is interesting. I've been thinking about the turning point between the two universes since they are so similar and, if Marceline was born after Petrikov tried on the crown, this may be a good one.
