Description these little guys are sooooo adorable and they make that humming noise, sooo soothing

this is a hummingbird hawk moth, they hover in midair while they feed on nectar from flowers and are sometimes mistaken for hummingbirds. This hovering capability has evolved only three times in nectar feeders: in hummingbirds, certain bats, and these moths did you know that?

we don't have real hummingbirds in germany and these little moths are just here since the last two summers or so, since the climate in germany is getting warmer

you'll get them, just go for the basic taffies

The only taffies I know are candy, so what do you mean?

seed-of-january In reply to Talty [2009-09-27 14:58:02 +0000 UTC]

it is candy and it means 'whispering sweet things'
so you're telling the bug how nice he looks and how beautiful his wings are etc

I actually learned something today!

I'm frustrated because I went to my German class today and I didn't understood the topic my teacher was explaining. I can't distinguish between direct and indirect object, not even in Spanish. Whenever the teacher asks me whether it is "akkusativ oder dativ?" I have no idea, yet I can decline properly if I don't think about it I don't know what's wrong with my brain

Wow!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

seed-of-january In reply to theMoondrop [2009-09-11 09:23:40 +0000 UTC]

The story of the moth is one of natural wonder and beauty. The picture you took is spectacular and it captures every bit of that wonder and beauty! We take for-granted what your camera captured! The idea that you have stopped a mere moment in time, a moment that is half a breath, a moment that could have passed without a thought...but you captured it! There is detail and color in this photo that lives only in that moment. Thanks for sharing it!

you're absolutely right, and yes it's a time problem
I always want to write more in detail, but then I would never be able to leave the computer and create some own works
I'm really stunned by most of the works appearing in my inbox
and sometimes I just don't know the words to write about my feelings which hit me looking at somebody's art piece I always struggle with vocabulary

thanks again for your kind words, maybe we should name one day of the week and pick one piece and write a longer comment

That is a GREAT idea! picking one day a week!

About struggling with vocabulary, I am in awe of you and Moondrop and all my other DA friends who write in English! in america they don't emphasis learning a second language as much as they do in european countries, and most people learn spanish when they do learn another language (there are so many spanish speaking people in america). I feel incredibly ignorant that I don't speak a second language! Sometimes Moondrop and I will use the Google translator because sometimes we need to make sure we know exactly what each other is saying...
(I hope this translates right)

I think it translates the basic information right, but the translation is really staccato-ish, lots of verbs without conjugation and some false translation (e.g. it translated "to pick" as "to commission"), but basically it is understandable

I rather use this only dictionary: [link] it has spanish, french and italian as well and I think I mostly pick the right vocabularies

I'd like to ask you for correcting me if I use wrong words in the context or funny sentence stuctures or else

claudiamm37 In reply to seed-of-january [2009-09-10 19:55:19 +0000 UTC]

it's good to know that the Google translator isn't so good...Your english is fantastic, truly! and I'd be happy to help you if you use something incorrectly, but I would feel bad....because I understand you perfectly (I'll do it this one time, OK?)

As an example you wrote: "I'd like to ask you for correcting me if I use wrong words in the context or funny sentence stuctures or else" I would have written it: "Please correct me if I use words in the wrong context or funny sentence structures."
HOWEVER: you also wrote: "I think it translates the basic information right, but the translation is really staccato-ish, lots of verbs without conjugation and some false translation (e.g. it translated "to pick" as "to commission"), but basically it is understandable" that was PERFECT!!!

yeah those translators sometimes create funny sentences

I always have problems with the polite form of adress, I mostly over do it, but I don't want to insult somebody in a foreign laguage and don't even know about it just "please correct me" sounded too harsh for me, but if you say that is ok and common, I'm really thankful that I learned sth new thank you so much for your help
and I'm really happy that I put together a perfect sentence

I mostly copy them from people's comments. If you hold the cursor over the little icon, it tells you what to type, but there' more to it, but it's hard to explain, do you know about typing "icon plz" before and after the word? Example: iconjoyplz looks like this when you surround it with : :

I wish there was! sometimes I just try typing in a word between the icon and the plz to see if there is an icon, and sometimes there is one! One time when wrote about McDonalds so I tried typing in mcdonalds in between and this is what I got but the best for me is to go through comments all through DA and see what's out there and try to copy it
