Description

This is a commission done for me by unusualsuspex

********************************************************************

The C’tek System, is located in the Norayis Sector , which exists in my AU Abramsverse New Start series.
seekhim.deviantart.com/gallery…

It is the home of the C'tekians  rulers of the C'Tekian Coil and members of the Norayis Alliance, which controls half the sector

NORAYIS SECTOR
The Norayis Sector is in the Alpha Quadrant a little over 20 light years ‘south’ of Talos  and 40 light years ‘east’
of the Klingon Empire
It is located within the territory of the United Federation of Planets

SYSTEM INFO
The system has one star, five planets and forty moons

STARS: 1
C’TEK
Type: M type Red Dwarf.
Red suns are much smaller than Earth’s and give off less light and heat.
Although a large Red Dwarf C'tek only produces 50% of the light/heat as Sol
In order to support life, planets have to be very close and planets that are that close are usually tidally locked to the sun.

PLANETS: 5
C’TEK I
Class: M (Earthlike)
Size: Twice as big as earth. (A Super-Earth)
Population: 2 billion
Geography: The planet has an ocean, several islands and two continents:  one on the ‘light’ side and one on the ‘dark.’

Tidal Lock
The planet is tidally locked with the sun, meaning that it doesn’t rotate.
One half perpetually faces the sun, while and the other half perpetually faces away from it.

There are no seasons on C'tek or a day/night cycle.
On the ‘night’ side the sun never rises and on the ‘day’ side the sun never sets.
The planet’s large mass, heavy gravity and thick atmosphere allow heat to circulate around the planet.

Night Side
On the Dark side the sun never rises.
The land is in permanent darkness and perpetually frozen.
In many areas there is geothermal venting and resultant hot springs.
In these areas are non-photosynthetic plants, bioluminescent micro-organisms  and small animals live.
C’tekian explorers who ventured into the Dark Side centuries before, were the first to discover the stars.
Since then the C'tekians have established several settlements by the geothermal vents

Day Side
On the Light Side the sun never sets and there is endless day.

Day Side: Storm Zone
The point directly opposite to the sun consists of a giant, unending hurricane.
In this area there are perpetual torrential rains.
Plants in this area are black and photosynthetic and have adapted by anchoring securely into the soil and growing long flexible leaves.
Animals here rely on infrared vision.

Day Side: Habitable Zone
Surrounding the Storm Point is the Habitable Zone, the home of the C'tekians.

This zone consists of dense swamps, marshes, bogs and rainforest which are watered by the countless rivers created by the Strom Zone.
There are also countless lagoons and river deltas.
Most of the plantlife here is green but a lot is also black and red.

C’TEK II
Class: P(Glaciated)
Size: Slightly larger than Earth.
Population: 3 million

Due to low solar radiation, the planet is dark and covered in ice.
It’s very active geothermally, resulting in a chain of geothermal vents at the equator.
These vents support non- photosynthetic plant-life
The C’tekians have established several colonies here.

Number of Moons: 5
Inhabited Moons: 2

C’tek IIa:
Class: L (Marginal)
This world has a very dense atmosphere which retains heat
It consists mostly of rocky hills and strips of frigid tundra
Population: 2,800,000

C’tek IIb
Class: D(Moon-like, rocky, barren)
Population: 350,000
Although frozen and barren this moon is known for its bright color.

C’TEK III
Class: C (Geoinactive)
Size: Earth.
Due to virtually no sunlight or heat, its atmosphere is permanently frozen.
Number of Moons: 3

C’TEK IV
Class: J gas giant
Size: Smaller than Neptune.
Number of Moons: 18

C’TEK V
Class: J (Gas giant)
Size: Smaller than Neptune
Number of Moons: 19

C'Tek III-IV do not have permanent populations, but each of them has monitoring/communication outposts

NEIGHBORS
The C’tek System is located 5 light years ‘east’ of the Droyana System, home to the Tkarites, founders of the Alliance

5 light years ‘southeast’ of the Norayis System which is Federation territory and the location of Starbase Alpha

And 10 light years south east of the   Revla System, home to the Nlians, members of the Federation

Earthlike planets around red dwarves are an interesting concept, especially with tidal locking.  With endless day and night, how would residents ever come to a concept of time?  Maybe if other planets cross the sky?
(Note- a tidally locked planet would not have moons--their orbits would not be stable)

C'tek doesn't have any moons.
It's the closest to the sun and is tidally locked.
The other planets are further out and not tidally locked.

I've been wondering how inhabitants on such planets tell time too.

Back in 1980 when I was drawing my comic strips, I had thought of a plot where the children were transferred to a tidally locked planet.  The plan was that they might be able to tell what part of the year it was by tracing the sun's shadow, if the planet had an elliptical orbit.  But that depended on people already having a sense of time.  I wonder if residents of such a planet ever would.

I've had the idea that the C'tekians measure time by how long it takes certain things to happen

Ex Certain types of plants to grow
How many times they shed their skin

As usual Unusualsuspex does an incredible job!!!  I love this C'Tek System very appropriate for a serpentine race that is carnivorous and downright scary.  I really hope to see what the C’tek I and the C'tekians look like.

I've been trying to work out what they look like.

C"TEKIAN TRAITS
They are a predatory carnivorous race. They can eat plantlife but require meat, preferable freshly killed or live.
They have powerful coils and poisonous fangs and can move very fast.

They enjoy the hunt and if threatened won't hesitate to kill even eat their foe.
That actually happened in 2181 when a C'tekian freighter was attacked and boarded by Nausican pirates.
The C'tekians didn't leave a single pirate alive or any bodies either.

They're located five light years from the Tkarites.
Both encountered each other in 1965 in what was a First Contact for both.
Both species see the merits of trade and both have engaged in extended trade with each other ever since

Their sun is red and the C'tekians refer to themselves as the Coil of the Red Sun.
They are dwellers of endless day and endless night

"Our coils traverse the endless swamp, the endless storm and the endless cold
In all environments we endure."

Let me know what you think!

AWESOME JOB!!!

I love your description of the C'tekian; the only problem I have is in reference to the C'tekian and the Nausican pirates.  I have no problem that the C'tekian didn't leave a single pirate alive or any bodies either; but they should really refrain from eating so much junk food.    From the concepts you have shown me I like crystalsully.deviantart.com/ar… and themefinland.deviantart.com/ar… .

Here are some other C'tekians concepts if your interested

The tidally locked world sounds like an especially interesting place.

Amazingly beautiful! Too bad planets in habitable zones of red stars are always tidally locked XD
