Icar is a planet that exists in my AU Star Trek ‘New Start’ verse.

It is a colony world of the Nlians who are members of the United Federation of Planets.
SYSTEM INFO
Icar is located in the Revla System
It is the first planet in the system and the closest to its sun, Revla.
PLANETERY INFO
Class: K (Adaptable) (Similar to Mars, but hotter)
Rotational Period: 16 hours
Orbital Period: 208 days
Atmosphere:
The planet has an atmosphere comprised mostly of carbon dioxide.
Volcanic gasses and dust reduces sunlight and heat, so while it's very hot, it’s not killer-hot.
The areas around the poles have the clearest skies and also cooler teperatures.
Gravity:
Due to its abundant ores and metals, Icar is very dense in composition.
Gravity is heavier than you’d expect for its smaller size.
Surface:
Icar has highly active volcanic zones and frequent quakes.
This constant geologic activity has resulted in mountain ranges that dwarf the Himalayas.
Icar is extremely rich in ores and minerals, including dilithium.
Native Life:
There is no native flora or fauna.

There are four fixed settlements:

MINING
Icar is rich in ores and minerals, and provides nearly a third of the raw resources for Nlia’s industry.
The Nlians have always been as meticulous about the environment of Icar as they have of their home planet.
In the 400 years that they've mined the planet, they've used less than 0.3% of its resources.
MOBILE MINING
There are multiple mobile installations that are used both for mining, extended land travel and shelter.
They range from 40-100 m in length and have crews/populations from 20-50.
They spend months traveling and mining before heading toward one of the settlements to offload.
Many of them constantly follow the planet’s terminator (border between day and night).
Some mobile miners live permanently on their transports.
A subculture has developed among them and they refer to themselves as the Icarian Nomads.

Icar is a key ship construction and design facility
There are several planetary construction yards and space drydocks.
SCIENCE
There are several scientific installations on Icar
The Icar Institute of Gelology is renowned throughout the Revla System.
THE NORTHERN POLE SETTLEMENT
Population: 20,000
The Northern Pole Settlement is the largest settlement and considered the capital.
It is located at the North Pole where the weather is cooler and the ground less tectonically active.
There are expansive cavern and tunnel structures.
Geothermal and solar energy are the major sources of power.
This is where the planet's largest refineries are located and is also where there largest shipyards are.
There is a constant stream of off-world visitors.

I look at this place and the word "HOT!" comes to mind.

Icar is Nlia's only terrestrial colony.
They have stations and outposts on moons but this so far is their only planetary colony.
Since their population is so small (500 million) they've never felt the need to do a lot of expanding.
They're in stark contrast to their neighbors who have dozens of planetary colonies.

They've made outpost on their moon Tilva and on the moons of Droshen and Zeuna.
But this is the only planetary one.
Their entire species population is only about 500 million so they're nowhere near as far flung as other species.
