City: Tanlon
Title: The City of Rock Song, The City of Rock Towers, The Heart of the Canyons
Planet: Nlia
Continent: Western Continent (Western Land)
Region: Sunlo Canyons
Population: 800,000 (About the size of San Francisco, CA)
Founded: Between 10,000 B.C
"Klomin is the most powerful city of the Sunlo Canyons, but Tanlon is its heart."
Tanlon is a city state that exists on the planet Nlia which exists in my AU Star Trek ‘New Start’ verse.
www.deviantart.com/seekhim/gal…
It is the home of the Nlians who are members of the United Federation of Planets.
THE SUNLO CANYONS REGION
The Sunlo Canyons are located in the southwestern region of the Western Continent.
This region is comprised of striking canyons, mesas, plateaus and stand alone rock formations.
The economy is heavily based on agriculture due to irrigation.
The Nlians of this region are among the most skilled on the planet in both geology and stonework.
The region is rich in minerals
Mining takes place but is carefully managed in order to preserve the environment
and done exclusively underground.
The city states of this region are regarded as architectural marvels.
Most buildings are built/carved from the walls of cliffs and canyons.
Many natural caverns have been hallowed out and have dwellings built in them.
Many areas with rock towers have rooms carved within them or tall structures
built so as to mimic rock towers.
In either case this in an area where one can see Nlian ‘skyscrapers’.
Nomadic tribes have lived in the canyons for thousands of years.
Brands of them can always be found camping near the cities
TANLON
Tanlon is in the northeastern part of the Sunlo Canyons, near where the region meets the Golden Sands
It is southeast of Talee and southwest of Nilara (Golden Sands)
It is the 2nd largest city state of the Sunlo Canyons.
The area in and around Tanlon has hundreds of rock towers, pinnacles and formations,
some over 300 meters high.
Over the millennia dwellings have been carved into them.
Tanlon prides itself on the fact that this is where Nlia's tallest buildings are and yet
not a single structure is man-made.
Every single room and dwelling has been carved out of natural structures over thousands of years.
Inside the structures, technology has become ever more advanced over the centuries.
Outside the structures stand virtually unchanged from as they were when tiny nomadic
bands first settled there.
To the Nlians this is a testimony to their attempts to live in harmony with their world.
The city is also famous for its elaborate hydraulics and gardens
The city is also famous for its art and music.
Because of its beauty and musical tradition the city is called the City of Rock Song
Because the entire city was carved inside rock towers, it is also called the City of Rock Towers
It is also called the Heart of the Canyons

Thanks!
Tanlon prides itself on the fact that this is where Nlian's tallest building are and yet no a single structure is man-made!
Every single room and dwelling has been carved out of natural structures over thousands of years.
Inside the high tech has gotten ever more advanced over the centuries.
But outside the structures stand virtually unchanged from as they were when tiny nomadic bands first settled there.

I love how the buildings are carved in the rock. Gives it that weird but good clash of natural and high-tech.

I like how the city blends into the environment. Like most of the cities of Nlian it has that kind of unique feel that makes it stand in well wherever it is located.
Only one minor nitpick would be that it does looks bigger then the 600.000 people it currently houses. But that could be me.

Maybe you could help me out and give me a recommendation of how many people you think it has.
I should tell you that Nlians have small cities compared to Earth.
Their capital and largest city is 1.2 million.

Hey I value your opinion
I've listed the Nlian cities I've had done so far and their populations.
I welcome your opinion/recommendations
Also I mentioned that Nlians have small cities. The population of their whole world is 500 million

I suppose it is! This is where Nlia's tallest buildings are and yet not a single one of them is man-made
Every single room and dwelling was carved out of natural structures over thousands of years.
This is a matter of great pride to Nlians
The city of Klomin has the tallest man made structures and they are patterned on natural structures
so as to blend in with the canyon.

I can see why the Nlians would be proud. On another note, I was playing Star Trek Online today and someone created a character that looked a lot like a Tkarite!

The species was called Alien, which is a sub-category for in case you want to make an original species or create a Star Trek species that's not an option. I forgot the name, but remember it started with a C. I think her name was Christina? I know it was something like that. I came across the character when I was doing a Task Force Operation as T'Mara and I thought it was interesting.

That is gorgeous! It looks like modern concept art but has a flair of those vintage scifi illustrations from books like Dune and Ringworld.
