Ecco vision sucks rather badly as the years gone by (and random mishaps and whatnot). Whether he wears his glasses or not, he is still considered legally blind XD To get an idea of how blind he is... if his glasses are off, you need to put your hand and fingers about 1 foot away from his face in order to accurately count how many fingers you're holding up. With his glasses on, your hands and fingers can be at the most... ten feet away in order for him to give an accurate count @___@

His vision is excellent in and out of the water when he's a young little hedgephin living with Daddy Shadow and Papa Sonic. Makes you wonder what happened to Ecco that screwed up his vision so badly 83 I can tell you that it's not just intense studying that ruined his vision, nor is it sitting in front of a computer screen looking at yaoi 24/7.

Ecco despise showing how blind he is when he's around his coworkers in whatever lab he's working at... but there is one person at his lab that helps him out when Ecco doesn't quite see what he's suppose to be seeing. Rest assure that he doesn't utilize his echolocation ability when he's around expensive and ultra sensitive lab equipment >.>

And yes, he is lightly nibbling on his glasses' lens X3 He does this when he's not around others and is nervous about something.
