Valdis –

A realm of shadow and darkness where every building was made of black smoke and soot although they are solid they still have the smoke-like attribute...

This kingdom is small and primitive (imagine 12th century in our planet, only everything here is either black or smoke-like...
The brightest light source is the Sapphire Wisp which is now situated above Quintessa’s domain,.. like a small bright star afloat her black, smoky castle. Although the Sapphire Wisp is the brightest light source there is, the dwellers here actually has a light of their own…these lights vary from sapphire blue, violet or to magenta and is located almost at everyone’s chest…

Etiquette here is quite the opposite of that in Earth. Giving out skulls is like giving out diamonds, mincing people up would be like a pat on the shoulder, burning a dweller would mean you like him/her.

Dwellers here are like humans but with a smoke-like attribute. You try to mince or slice a dweller; he/she just disperse and form again.
They die when their Wisp in their lamps burn out which will only happen when Quintessa is feeling ill or the original Sapphire Wisp is weakening. And when they do, their soot essence goes back to Quintessa

Everyday or in Valdis’ term, ‘in every Wisp’s flare’, dwellers have fun because in Valdis, having fun = work.
Pranks are always about and every burst of emotion feeds the Sapphire Wisp with life, meaning more structures and more dwellers.
(Simply imagine a village full of children and their pranks; they neither know what’s good or what’s bad...just plain fun : >)...

‘Quintessa’ , ‘Quin’ , ‘Tessa’, or even ‘Ifrit’. ..She doesn’t dwell too much on what should people call her, as long as she is recognized, it’s fine. She gets really excited when someone mentions her name, though.

Quin could be compared to that of a curious child: always eager to find something new. Her emotions do not vary that much to being amused, pleased or just plain happy.

She talks and snickers with malice but in actuality it’s her adorable way of saying she’s pleased. You can freely talk with her until she goes off by herself checking out some things she finds most pleasing (which are probably, gross stuffs).

She loves the darkness and shows her disdain to light with an ear-splitting shriek whenever she’s exposed to it.
She can easily be swayed by other people’s stories due to her lack of common knowledge.

She is honest with her thoughts though and rarely gets angry, though like achild, she can easily feel disappointed and sad...BUT…she can easily be distracted, too. One moment she’s crying her hearts out , the next second she’s happily prancing to wonderland.

She knows when something is bad for someone though, and does her best to help.

She shows affection by either mincing you up with her shadow blades or giving you skulls or just simply burning you up (it’s Valdis’ common act of love. It’s not her fault. ;n; ).
She is innocent and playful…

• History

Valdis started out as nothing…just a void. However, A little after other worlds began to emerge, a will-o’-the-wisp, also called as Sapphire Wisp (for its color) appeared in the center of what is now Valdis.
It did nothing, but ablaze…as it burned more, soot formed and filled the whole void and completely covered everything with darkness.
The Sapphire Wisp continued on, until, from the soot it produced, made a being come to life.
The first being to emerge was Quintessa. From the black smoke and the soot, she created her clothes…for awhile she was clueless of what to do and just stared at the blazing fire.
She roamed around the new dimension the Wisp has created and found nothing but smoke and soot. There was no day and night in Valdis, just darkness.
The only light source was the Sapphire Wisp. Lonely and bored, Quintessa came back to where the Sapphire Wisp was, it was still producing soot and smoke.
Seeing that Quintessa, herself, came from soot, she tried collecting the black substance and molds it to form. The thing she formed came to life as soon as she placed a small portion of the Sapphire Wisp into it. This became her first pet, and named it Nyxus.
Seeing that she can create her own company, Quintessa made different forms from the black substance, each had a small part of the Sapphire Wisps essence.
It got crowded and she was pleased, she created buildings from soot and placed small essences of the Sapphire Wisp to make it solid, just as how everything was done.
Still, she was lonely. She had nobody to talk to as the things she had created were of lower intelligence. She pondered, and it came to her. She molded a being similar to her form, and gave it a small essence of Wisp inside it; however, it did not come to life. Desperate as she was, she grabbed another handful of the Sapphire Wisp and placed it at the lamp in the being’s chest she provided. And alas, it came to life. Happy and pleased, she made her first friend and named the being, Ratri.
Ratri was a good company, often taking care of Quintessa. Ratri shows a great deal of respect and loyalty to his creator and did everything she commanded.
Knowing now the secrets, Quintessa created more until she finally made a small kingdom of her own. Ratri was her right hand. The dwellers of Valdis were grateful to their creator and vowed loyalty.

• It was going well…The dwellers of Valdis didn’t have much to complain as Valdis isn’t much of anything. It was dark but lights filled it’s vicinity as every being had a part of the Sapphire Wisp within them. Quintessa ruled her kingdom with great pride. It was her work after all. Valdis was at peace… …not until the Great Impact occurred…It would have seemed that the Sapphire Wisp itself was Astral Energy,…after the great catastrophe, the size of the Sapphire Wisp decreased allowing only minimal amounts of energy to pass through Valdis. The sapphire wisp that was in everyone’s lamp (in their chest) was connected…The first to slowly disappear were the lesser beings Quintessa first formed.
Alarmed, Quintessa sought a way to increase the Wisps size once more before the shadow dwellers population dwindled. Quintessa has the biggest shard of the Sapphire Wisp in her chest as to why the reducing size of the Sapphire Wisp affects her so; she has a stronger connection to it. The people of Valdis worked with their Queen seeing that when she weakens, they also weaken.
Distraught that she still couldn’t come up with something to help her people, she roamed her kingdom looking for an idea. Unknowingly, she walked into the realm outside of Valdis where that void in the beginning was. And not far from where she stood was an arc. Curious, she went and explored the unusual architecture of the arc and much to her surprise she landed elsewhere she never dreamed or even imagined of seeing. She had just gone and threw herself to Telia….and thus her quest for Astral-gathering begins….

- Hates light and would disperse when exposed too long in it.
- Inquisitive (this might make her annoying)
- Rolls in her own pace, often to what interests her .

- Hides in her hood most of the time to avoid light.
- Has a pet called Nyxus that often dwells in her cape.
- She has no shadow for she is like shadow herself.
- Forms blades from her soot and uses it as a weapon.
- Doesn’t know how to defend herself, she’d most likely be waiting for you to lounge on her with open arms. (because violence is like love in Valdis. : > , this could be troublesome…OTL)
- Physical attacks normally don’t work against her since she’s partly just smoke, but when weapons are embedded with magic (especially light magic), well, bye bye shadow queen.
- If you do get to hit her when she’s in her full solid state, she’ll get knocked out almost immediately.
- She’s playful, so she plays with her opponent before she actually thinks of finishing them off.. xDD
- She walks and leaves a trail of soot or black smoke behind, (aint that cool??)) XDD.
- can conjure balls...of fire. , normally sapphire ones and sometimes, black fire. Hurrhurr. Fire is actually her main means of offense…and so, her blades don’t hurt as much.
- mentions Ratri a lot….he’s like everything to her, actually. [butler/ mother/father/brother/lover/pet/servant/ you name it all]

Relations

Ratri:
The first being created by Quintessa that is similar to her form, only male.
Even though Quintessa created him, he is actually more knowledgeable than her. He knows how Valdis’ etiquette is upside down, knows there are other worlds existing…and so much more. He’s like a seer. He IS a seer. He is uptight when it comes to Quintessa and teaches her the proper ways to act, as a lady and as a ruler. He’s a bit of a sadist, too. XD
He remains at Valdis for now, looking over Quintessa’s kingdom while she’s away and patiently waits for her return…(of course, while reforming the upside down culture in Valdis. XDD…a slave driver, if you ask me……I’m so gonna use this character in the future)

Nyxus
The very first creature Quintessa made. It’s personality is quite a mix of Quintessa’s curiousity and Ratri’s maturity. It’s a bit shy around people though and oftens hide underneath Quintessa’s dress. He’s a great pet, always following his master…though…he kind of lectures Quintessa, too [he was so not told by Ratri to do so. XDD]
