Description Remnants of a scout platoon are deperately fighting their way out of an encircling
enemy when one scout rider sees their drop ship coming to their rescue.
I was sketching ideas and ended up with this. Note nearest scout is pointing up
at ship with right hand.

Wow, you've captured the moment perfectly. I also love the use of colour; the dull greys of a ruined urban environment illuminated by the firery blasts of the weapons.

An excellent job and I look forward to viewing the rest of your work.

I honestly don't think it could be much better. If you look at the idea of scouts: recon enemy forces while staying undetected. Rely on speed and the idea of seeing without being seen. In the landscape they are in, they have a low profile and the bikes appear to be rather speedy.

The colours hint that they are mostly one with the environment; similar colours which reduce the chances of the eye being attracted to the scouts. The firery colours show the aggression and heat of the moment; the scouts furiously fighting for survival, as well as attempting to break the encirclement. The splash of warmth also adds life and action to an otherwise quiet and cold environment. Without the gunfire, it would just seem like they were slipping past an enemy position.

Like I said, I don't think could be much better, but each to their own

Dark and dreary, adds a lot of mood to the picture, but the background seems to be suggesting hope with the ship descending as well as the light. Great work!

Might want to study real ruins a bit more. Those holes look a bit too neat. They should either be crumbly or merely pock/depressed marks if the walls are strong. The tank thing looks very much rushed.

Eyecatching nonetheless.
