Description This is 's original character Celeste LaFluer. Done as a commission, but since I took waaay too long, I do feel I owe him more. SO this is just the start. This piece was originally meant to be just pencils, but I will ink and color it as well.

Sorry it took so long, Danger. Hope you like it so far.

The skirt I actually had fun with. I thought I was gonna hate it since I could never draw them in high school. And hadn't really attempted since. But it came out alright.

And the colors should DEFINITELY liven this one up a bit. All in due time.

i like the whole thing overall but i think my fave part is her foot and leg thats planted on the ground cuz it looks so firm and stable even tho shes crazy angled towards the other direction.

Yea, stable feet are a big thing with me. I always hated the 90s comicbook "triangle feet" cop out. Like early Mark Bagley (Spider-man in the 90's). The feet NEVER looked planted. Just came to downward points that made no sense. TOTALLY threw me off when tryin to draw as a kid. lmao.

Than I came acrossed a little thing called physics. And a slight knowledge of anatomy doesn't hurt either of course. Combine those with early 90's styled dynamics (Jim Lee, Andy Kubert, Whilce Portacio, etc.) and BAM!! You got my style. lol. I like to play around with weird dynamics that imply movement. I try to convey poses to what it'd feel like to move like that. Kinda like when you're running or playing sports, it feels different that what you're actual movement looks like I think. So thats where I get that inspiration from. ...if that makes any sense, I dunno. But its worked for me so far.

Thanks, man. Glad you're diggin it.

worked perfect in my opnion
haha, the old comic feet (old to me cuz id just started collectng in the 90's) were funny...the feet looks like flippers ... like they had fins instead of toes. XD
its interesting how you convey it tho b/c its dynamic like cool oldstyle comics but its also industial with the heavier looking gear and more relistic and modern with the clothing and coloring style you use... just a variety all around :3

Yea, its been interesting developing my style. I'm curious as to where it'll take me next. But I do try to add my own thing while still making it slightly obvious where my inspirations originally came from. Don't know how well that holds up, but I'm sure some people catch them. But my main objective is to solidify my own look. Something unique that stays in the memory so if someone was to see something I did that wasn't posted they'd go "Oh that kinda looks like Krops' work." All in due time I suppose.

*Krops = my last name for those who don't know. lol.

I despise you and the brilliance of your action poses. Seriously. You suck.
I'm rather fond of the simplicity of her hands. Wow, I now realize just how utterly moronic that sounded...are hands EVER simple to draw?

I'm glad you.... wait, what? Hate me? Thanks.... I think. lol

The pose was fun. I like to try out action poses. I still don't got them down the way I'd like, but I'm workin on that. The hands? Oooooooh man were those a pain in the ass. I'm just glad I got them to have some resemblance of actual hands. lol. Hands are a bit of a weak spot for me. I really struggle with them, so I try to stylize it a bit. Sometimes it pans out, other times it completely fails. See? I'm not that good.

I like that running step she's taking, it's a neat effect. You've done a nice job of her clothing details, like how her vest is being blown about, and the detail on her boots.

And here I though people were gonna point out the skirt and the folds in the shirt. I guess I did alright in the other aspects I wasn't so sure came out that good. Thanks, man.

As for the pose, thats from growing up reading a LOT of Jim Lee comics as a kid. lol. Seriously, I learnd a LOT about action and dynamics just from that man's work on the 90's X-Men comics alone. Nowadays, I'm just tryin to learn to handle them properly.

Thanks again, dude.

One book that I've really depended on is the "How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way" instructional book- it's great for checking composition and dynamic poses, so I've gotta agree with you on your last point. One thing that I really liked about it was how it was always easy to tell what was happening in each panel- the action is clear and distinct. I need to ensure that my work looks that way, too. I think you pulled that off in your work.

I remember that book. What the title should REALLy be called is "How to Draw Comics the Jack Kirby Way" since that whole book is based on his style. But if you want to check out a more modern book to help further your knowledge, I HIGHLY recommend Wizard- How to Draw: Character Creation. Wizard magazine finally started puttin out collected volumes of the how to draw guides in there magazine. I think they got out 4 or 5 different volumes. But for characters and dynamics, the one I mentioned is the best one. After all, who better to learn from than ALL the industry pros?

And thanks for the compliment. Clarity is definitely something I strive for. Its easy to get a work cluttered.

Her arms are a bit short, I think; the perspective might be a bit off. Other than that, I think she looks way more lively and with much more personality than normal.

Self-InFiction In reply to celleri-kun [2007-04-09 02:38:26 +0000 UTC]

Yea, I think the one arm seems a bit short. It was supposed to seem kinda bent towards the background. Still wound up lookin a little short. I think I can fix that later in photoshop during the coloring process. Hell I managed to fix a few things through photoshop.

Thanks, Cell. It's sometimes a challenge to make an anime style character in a more western style. I think I got it off though.

Whats wrong with the world when YOUR mind is completely in the gutter and mine ISN'T!! Oh bitter irony. I love thee so.

note: even puppies and butterflies "get low". Hell, dogs can even reach "themselves". *see's 'Diha run and hide in the box from her strip* O.O

M = Mature

as in: "Rated M for mature"

I could think of a few other words to turn this back around,..... but I'll behave.
