[Name] relaxed against the worn leather armchair, relishing in the familiar setting. Heavy eyelids fluttered closed and she almost surrendered to the sweetest slumber. She yearned for sleep to claim her tired mind; to rid her of the suffering she experienced while awake.

Frankly, she was an oddity. The black sheep in an ocean of white. The one in a million. She was lovesick.

She couldn’t even talk about her infatuation. In this world taken up by destined lovers, unrequited love was laughed at. Searching for one’s soulmate was the ultimate priority over experiencing love and romance. No one cared about dating; they simply showed each other their tattoos. If they didn’t match, they’d simply stop bothering.

And in the middle of the fated craze, she stood alone, desperately in love with a celebrity.

A bored sigh brought her back to reality. She opened her eyes to register Kuroo staring sleepily at the TV. Kenma put his tattooing instruments carefully away and produced a portable gaming console seemingly out of nowhere.

“It’s him again”, Kuroo grunted. “It’s so freaking annoying that everyone’s so obsessed with him!”

“Who?” she asked, following his gaze to the screen. The image of a stunning man appeared, taking her breath away. It was him. The way his chocolate brown hair flowed sloppily yet so charmingly; the rim of his glasses accentuating the beauty of his unlined face; the blinding wide grin that did not actually reflect in the pools of warm cocoa that he called eyes. She stared at the screen transfixed.

The image widened, revealing the presence of a woman holding hands with Oikawa. She was gorgeous in a supermodel kind of way: long silky hair, perfect skin, lush eyelashes, plump lips, fancy clothes. [Name] felt her heart skip a beat.

“Breaking news! The famous bon viveur Oikawa Tooru has finally found his soulmate!” the voice of the anchor echoed from the speakers. A chill ran down her back and she gripped the armrests so hard, her knuckles turned white.

An irritated huff escaped Kuroo’s lips and he reached for the remote controller. “He gets on my nerves!”

“Wait”, Kenma said somewhat indifferently, fixed on the TV. A set of tattoos depicting tiny maple leaves the colour of warm honey had taken up the screen. [Name]’s eyes widened in surprise. She stared at the tattoos, unable to process what she was seeing. Every line of the design; every change in the colouring; she knew every little detail like the palm of her hand. Unconsciously, her arm wrapped around her body, her fingers caressing softly her ribs.

“Why are you so interested in their soulmate tattoos, man?” Kuroo asked his friend exasperated.

“Apart from the fact that I’m a tattoo artist”, Kenma deadpanned making Kuroo look away with a pout, “I think I know this girl.”

Two pairs of uncomprehending eyes turned to the smaller man as he peered at the screen, eyebrows knitting together.

[Name] felt cold inside. She had always known that he was a fleeting dream, something that she could never attain, but seeing him holding hands with his soulmate broke her. A single tear ran down her cheek.
