Description This piece was commissioned by and it portrays his character Blaze who i have done a couple of times before having a tag team with Vigil to take down the monster called Prototype.

Here is the first page of the comic book he and his friend made. A link under the description will take you to the next pages.

No references used except for the character design. I took a few artistic liberties with the designs. Hope you like it!

Great picture - I've already commented and faved the other version of this but I thought I should post here too since you drwew the thing! Really dramatic stuff - and I like the little details like Vigil's armour cracking. Good stuff!

Thanks man! your comics were a great inspiration to this piece. You guys did a great job on it especially the paneling and the action scenes! Enjoyed reading it and borrowed a few elements from the story as well. Would have added the same BG and have an open electrical wire in the foreground but i messed up with my layers and had to let it go... but im glad you like it still

Another good piece of art. One thing I notice about a lot of commissions you do is they always seem to be dark. I think a little light in the picture would bring out details a lot more.

semaj007 In reply to saber4734 [2011-07-26 07:17:44 +0000 UTC]

Thanks bro. If you mean the piece is dark even with the lighted areas, i guess i got some problems with my screen gamma/brightness adjustments. Ive yet to view my pieces on monitors other than my 17" LED desktop monitor and 17" LED Laptop. Ive noticed things to be a bit dark on my parents' 14" laptop but everything seemed to be darker there. But if you mean i got lotsa shadows and muted colors, i actually prefer it not only with commission pieces but even my own personal works.

im past the "detail every inch of the pic" thing... i believe that details should be given to important portions only of the whole canvas like expressions and key details. ive done overly detailed pieces in the past and it didnt help the overall drawing. i find doing large areas of shadows also give the figures added solidity and depth. But i gotta say i have to find some way of using browns and blues rather than heavy blacks on shaded areas though. Cant seem to do it with my current technique without giving a LOT of time fixing em.

I'm sure you will figure out new techniques. I am having the same issues myself with my cross-stitch. The dark grey floss I tend to use for shading to show muscles has been changed. People at craft stores tell me dye lots change but this change looks like more than that. It went from being a dark grey to having a blueish tint to it. Might still work on future projects but I had to make changes to Green Lantern since I had already started. I guess what I am saying is I understand what you're going through.

ouch... that's shitty. Ive had to undo some before coz i messed up but to undo a lot coz the color aint the same is juz lame. Thread companies should maintain their dyes right?

BTW, were you able to see the leaderclass ironhide? pretty sweet bro! and i hear its juz 36.50 at walmart!

The only transformer that caught my eye at work was Sentinel Prime. His robot mode looked very cool but I do not know much about his background so I can't give a good opinion on him. Plus I have yet to see the movie and I probably will just wait till it comes out on netflix.

Sentinel Prime is an awesome figure but i expect his price to drop soon since he wasnt that great in the movie and nobody seems to be picking him up in the stores. Kinda like the Leader Starscream which i think is still the best Leader figure to date in terms of features and movie accuracy.

The Ironhide leader is one hell of a sculpt as well and all the features are perfect. The downside on this figure though is the paintjob but seeing others custom paint the figure really show how the figure shines.

I don't mind you throwing info my way about Transformers. I do consider picking up a Deluxe figure now and then when I see them come in at Kmart. But I just can't even afford to grab one now and then on the shit they pay me. Having troubles with the damn hospital trying to pay my bills as is. Guess what I am saying is I may not be able to keep up with you on what's hot bro. lol

Did see a race car called Roadbuster I think. Is he in the movie? He is like a green and white nascar.

No probs bro... you dont need to buy em to admire em right? I freakin drool over em hottoys figures but i cant afford a single one!

Roadbuster? damn good figure bro! And yep... he is in the movie along with the other 2 wreckers. He is easier to find though compared to Topspin, the blue and white racecar in case you wanna sell some in ebay or something. But if you plan to get him for yourself, he's worth it bro. Really good design.. may need a lil paint on the legs though.

saber4734 In reply to semaj007 [2011-08-05 04:35:12 +0000 UTC]

Topspin huh? Haven't seen him yet but i'll keep an eye out. I don't do ebay much anymore but I do keep my eye out for garaunteed sellers. I'll keep Roadbuster on my mind. TFs are not selling well at Kmart so I bet he is still on the shelf. Or in the back we have so much overstock.

Hey what is the deal with all these repaints I am seeing on the deluxe figures at Wal-Mart? I mean I could swear I saw Bumblebee repainted with race care numbers. Is it part of the movie or are they just trying to sell more toys by offering them with racing stripes?

Hasbro has been doing that trick eversince! and worse today coz they dont even bother to change the heads this time and juz flat out splash new colors and make em new figures. Im not sure though if BBee had numbers but he does have a racecar treatment in his most recent version. especially with the screen instead of glass windows. but i still prefer battleblade bbee though in terms of sculpt, mobility and features

I don't think a new paint job makes any character new. I don't want anything special. I look for the deluxe figures that match the movie and don't have a ton of guns all over them. I am true to the whole Robots in Disquise thing.

semaj007 In reply to saber4734 [2011-08-06 04:53:29 +0000 UTC]

exactly but that's what hasbro does... they repaint figs and make em new ones. As for tons of guns, thats the new gig they got for TF3 toys... each character gets a huge weapon that is both a firearm and a melee weapon. they can be attached to their vehicle modes( and look silly).

Roadbuster is great in vehicle mode btw as you can reveal his cannons while as a car or you can hide em.

saber4734 In reply to semaj007 [2011-08-06 04:57:45 +0000 UTC]

I agree, they look silly. I might just invest in Roadbuster. He does look pretty cool. I googled Topspin and he looked like he had way too much damn armor and weaponry on him. He may be hard to find in stores but I can garauntee he wouldn't be hard to find on the battlefield.

semaj007 In reply to saber4734 [2011-08-06 09:11:27 +0000 UTC]

Ahhhh.... actually, all the wreckers have that capability. They can all look like normal nascars and they can go into their battlemodes. Hasbro juz opted to have topspins toy version to have the battle mode and roadbuster, the ordinary mode. I think the human alliance Roadbuster has the battle mode vehicle.

Yeah but I actually saw Topspin at Kmart today and his hood and sides haves ridges on them where you get more of a robot feel than a race car feel. I grew up in a time when you could transform any transformer and play with them as if they were just cars and trucks. Of course the ocassional jet and tank but they still looked like modern day military vehicles.

If you transformed the original Optimus Prime back in the day you could pretend he was hauling moonshine for the General Lee and the Duke boys. Now you got to wonder if the truck will have two friggin cannons on its sides and spikes on its wheels.

I guess they wanted to give some of the fans of the "pimped out" mode vehicles a figure to have as well in topspin considering that every other bot has a vehicle mode that looks ordinary. We all got different tastes anyhow and im surprised that Hasbro didnt opt to make a whole new line where the bots transform into their pimpedout modes as there are a lot who like em (BBee has a weaponized vehicle version in the movie i think... cant remember well). that way, people like you who like the basic version get what they want, others who like the weaponized forms get theirs as well... and i get both! LOL

saber4734 In reply to semaj007 [2011-08-07 04:13:03 +0000 UTC]

You get both LOL. I used to be a like you back in the Beast Wars era. I hated some of those toys I bought afterwards. They were so poorly thought out. But I bought them just to have them.

semaj007 In reply to saber4734 [2011-08-07 11:34:59 +0000 UTC]

Nah... i dont actually buy everything. Out of all the TF3 figures i only bought 3 namely topspin, roadbuster and Leader Ironhide. The only thing im buying after this would probably be the third member of the Wreckers if ever they make a deluxe figure. I never buy stuff juz for the sake of having em all... except for the MARVEL LEgends where you have to get everything to complete the Build-a-figure.

I meant that i would get both designs coz they both look awesome to me... ordinary nascar and pimped out weaponized modes. Of the hundreds of figures i have, i only regret buying a few of em. Mostly ones that i bought two of that thinking i could resell em easily. hehe

saber4734 In reply to semaj007 [2011-08-07 16:33:00 +0000 UTC]

Oh I got ya. We have some DC figures that are the Build-a-Figure kind. I wouldn't mind getting Black Lantern Abin Sur and this one freaky Sinestro Corps member. But I don't want the others. So the problem there is I buy those 2 and i'm stuck with Arkillo's leg and head. LOL

indeed! getting just two figures is ok... but if you planned to get like 4 out of the 7, you're pretty much forced to get the 3 remaining figs! hehe. And you can sell the BAF parts easily on ebay too especially when the figs are hard to find...

Fantastic image man, thanks very much once again! I love the attention to detail you have on the characters and I'm really pleased with how this came out, especially how monsterous Prototype appears facing off against the two heroes! Let's hope they both manage to prevail, we can't let Dr. Kane win

Thanks once again!

Haha! Certainly not... im sure they are gonna foil Dr Kane's devious plans whatever they may be...

I actually wanted to add a lil bit of BG (dark tunnels with a few pipes) and have a open electrical wire on the side (as what was used in the comics) but i accidentally merged the layers and it wouldve been hard to add a BG... but im glad you still like it as it is. And thank you too!

You're welcome!

That's only natural. Besides I wouldn't worry too much about it. I personally find it's sometimes good to take a break from painting every once and a while; it does your mind good to be able to start fresh again.

semaj007 In reply to Vyrilien [2011-08-16 06:08:24 +0000 UTC]

indeed! sometimes you even get to see the errors of recent works that you've left unfinished. I mean, things may look great now but after a week of taking a break, you see a lot of mistakes and going back to it, you get to correct em. hey, you yourself have taken quite a break and cant wait to see more stuff from ya!

Vyrilien In reply to semaj007 [2011-08-22 19:05:41 +0000 UTC]

I guess in a way that's a good thing, but in my case it usually means I can't be bothered to correct all the mistakes and I abandon it altogether lol.

I sure have. I checked the date of the last deviation I uploaded before I vanished from deviantART and frankly it shocked me quit a bit haha.

semaj007 In reply to Vyrilien [2011-09-05 07:11:13 +0000 UTC]

hehe... i actually am pretty much like you in the sense that i never retouch old works. Ive yet to finish any abandoned work as well...probably because of the number of errors i see and that i would hate to redo almost everything. hehe.

yep! you have been gone for quite some time now! well, time does fly nowadays but i find most days unproductive. hope yours have been waaaaay better.
