I've had this one stewing in my mind for ages, and it finally got itself finished--it took me just short of forever to find the proper background and a very long time to actually get the stock images onto my computer. I'm blaming it on the telekinetic spider, which, for reasons it keeps to itself, does not want me to make this manip. At all.

Anyhow, this is a portrait, I suppose, of Meliara Astiar, the main character in the very lovely book Crown Duel by Sherwood Smith. Excellent fantasy; I highly recommend it. I was taken aback by how much *lockstock looked like Mel--even her nose was right, which is lovely because noses are very hard to get right and I can't paint them if I tried (which I haven't, but knowing my very lacking skills in drawing I'd rather not waste my time). I think Mel is in Court here, probably somewhere in Part II, looking up at the window reflectively. (I'd like to think she's contemplating her tempestuous relationship with the Marquis of Shevraeth, but she could be thinking of something completely benign and uninteresting, like dinner or starlisses or the colour red.)
