Description On Captain Kirk's first mission he makes some grave errors in judgment by being too cavalier about their situation and after a valiant fight winds up being trapped and shackled in a dungeon with Spock. After watching TOS (or more to the point as i am watching TOS) i think more and more that the TOS Jim is far more fallible then the New Kirk and that he would have to make this kind of error to learn from it and better understand the boundaries he has to work with. Spock is contemplating his new captain's methods and jim is trying to think of a way to escape.

I drew Jim and Spock based on OLD pictures of Shatner and Nimoy so these are the very young originals.

I used this texture for the door - [link]

What exactly do you mean about TOS Kirk being more fallable? Frankly, that's exactly what Pine's kirk needs to even be called Kirk. He's got all of the ego, drive, ambition, but none of the humility, and seemingly very little of the book smarts and experience. Remember, Kirk was a lieutenant for YEARS before he became captain in TOS, he even instructed cadets at the academy for a short period of time ("In Kirk's Class, if you don't think you sink" said Gary Mitchell).

Very well done and true to form Kirk and Spock, though. Bravo.

I don't understand your statement. Are you saying that tos kirk is exactly fallible?

and thank you for saying i drew them true to form though

I think Pine's Kirk is just as fallable, he just doesn't know it yet (neither do the writers, which worries me. )

yes that is definitely a possibility however right now we can only really judge him on what we have seen. you can only ever judge a person or a character on what that have done not what they are going to do. thus far he seems far less fallible then tos kirk.

That's the big point though. Kirk is defined by his strength of command that borders on obsession (It's a major passion), what keeps him from being self destructive in such a pro-active state is that he's aware of that failing and stops himself, yields. McCoy and Spock were often his safety net.

I will never forget that scene in Balance of Terror wherein Kirk says "Bones, what if i'm wrong?" He's asking a man who he knows disagrees with his decision, but a man he also knows he can rely on to give him the purest human perspective. Which itself is amazingly written and performed.

In any event, my hope is that Pine's Kirk matures enough to carry that element too.
