Dobsonflies are nasty creatures... Hellgrammites are probably 10 times worse... gladly I don't see many around here... lol.

Thank you I appreciate the comment! This is with my 60mm f/2.8D AF Micro-Nikkor Its got a really narrow focal length so its hard to shoot anything with alot of depth when you are really close to something. But I really like it

Ive been wondering forever what kind of insect this was....Visiting my parents a while back we had a huge one on the side of the garage. Named it the devil bug

Ok... So I looked into wtf this bug is...
As seto2112 said its a dobsondly female. And yes they are cranky, they can draw blood with those mandibles. The males have a huge set of mandibles but they are for show and mating and they dont hurt... This one though... piss her off enough and she may even let loose her last ditch defense... And that would be smelling like horribly rotten flesh. She will only live a few days in this form. My friend hit it with the lawnmower the next day and her right set of wings were cut in half nicely... She was not amused. I couldent get another shot of her. Anywhoo... They spend most of their lives as larve about 2-3 years living in streams and ponds. In that form they are called hellgrammites... yeah you heard me... Hell-Grammites. They look as mean as the adults, kinda like cetipedes from hell. They feed on other small insects and again in this form both male and female can draw blood with their nonvenemous bites. Fishermen pride themselves in catching these thing and using them as bait. Mostly because catching one and not getting a nasty bite is quite difficult. [link]

Hell no! Bugs like that get angry when you try to squish them! thing was like five or six inches long and it took a hit from the damned lawnmower and that just pissed off!
