Just a hint of motion in this one, the right amount. I love the ethereal qualities of these birds ... they don't look quite real ... 'spirit birds' indeed!

exactly
the birds are real and they are not. here but there.
thank you very much for the intuitive comments. i actually look forward to them-not that you have to comment on everything i post!

Beautifully soft. And somehow very fragile... As if it will slowly scatter and dissappear while you look at it, like a cloud or fog.

excellent choice of words you used for this piece. i didn't think of that way but i agree i think it adds to he intention of the artwork.

Lovely I'm curious about the little cup

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SethFitts In reply to BlackCarrionRose [2008-11-07 18:00:10 +0000 UTC]

that is supposed to be a "golden rectangle". it's not precise in measurement, but i'm mainly using it symbolically here.

[link] this is a great painting by Klimt. you'll see a golden rectangle in the upper right corner.

i like the idea of it being a cup. i didn't see a cup until you mentioned it. it can be a cup because it works along with the meaning of the work. nice!

hehe well sorry for the misconception, but I'm glad it worked

Those links were helpful. I see what you mean

it's cool...and there is no misconceiving. you saw what you saw. i learned years ago to let go of what my original intentions of a piece because most everyone has their own way of seeing. i think that makes sense...i don't know.
i glad you checked the links. i learned some of this during college and learned a lot about symbolism in art from Dr. Scotti Foss, a lady with incredible insight. she pretty much set me on the path of using symbols, both consciously and subconsciously(coz nothing is done by accident in art). symbols i use include but aren't limited to numbers, shapes and color. i'm talking too much.

cup: the draught of life; immortality; plenty. the open, receptive, passive, feminine form.

bird: transcendence;the soul; a spirit; divine manifestation; spirits of the dead; ascent to heaven; the ability to communicate with the gods or enter into a higher state of consciousness.

I stumbled upon this on the dA main Browse page, what a lucky find!!
I love how it's almost abstract, yet simple fine lines retain the subject from bleeding into the back ground.
The only thing that bugs me is the birdhouse or little box down in the left corner...it feels out of place, like it's floating on the canevas. I think your composition is dramatic enough, even without this element.
Truly an awesome piece!

thank you for your input! feed back is much appreciated and much better than just: "nice", "cool", or "great".
the rectangle shape is meant to be a "golden rectangle". the one i put in the painting is not accurate and not used for proportion. it's meant to be symbolic. it doesn't seem as distracting seeing the painting in person. i may try to tone it down with a glaze.

you can also reference Gustav Klimt's "Danae". there is a golden rectangle in the upper right corner of the piece. be aware the painting contains nudity if you are adverse to that.
thanks again!

riepley In reply to SethFitts [2008-11-07 17:55:24 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, it must not be as distracting in person, probably the web colors enhanced the contrast, and that's why it seemed "off" to me..
I didn't know about the rectangle in Klimt's painting.
It's never to late to learn something new! Thanks for that!

Sorry, if I didn't catch the symbolism of the golden rectangle... I'm always off when it comes to interpretations in painting.

I always try to give more details in my comments, I find that people don't take time enough to analyze what they're looking at, and appreciate the other's work rightfully. Thanks for noticing

agreed. i welcome any kind of feedback, even if the viewer completely hates the piece!

on Klimt's piece i had to analyze two of his works while in college. while doing the research i discovered all sorts of cool things about his, and other, works.
