Story: Laughlan is the heir to the throne of England's demon lord and lordess. They have been trying to hook him up with a powerful partner with a lot of land for all of his life. They dress him up, send him out, and hope he returns with a mate. Each time he doesn't, he's severely punished.

Jin is a free-loving Irish wind apparition. He's not a demon lord. Who needs that kind of responsibility?

Laughlan started his little journey when he ran away, ending up in China about the time Taishi, Inuyasha, Sesshoumaru, and Kaida were visiting. He was visiting Kiron, an old friend of his, when he happened to notice Inuyasha and decided he would play a game. Laughlan loved acting and swordplay and a bit of rough house whenever he could get away with it, so he dropped upon Inuyasha with a convincing act to make Inuyasha quite sure that he was an enemy to be killed.

At first, Laughlan was doing well, before Inuyasha was able to corner him with the Wind Scar.

The first meeting of Jin and Laughlan happened when Jin grabbed Laughlan quickly out of the way while dispersing the Wind Scar. Kiron introduced them briefly, but there was little to be said after that. Laughlan apologized to an enraged Inuyasha and Jin went about his way. Laughlan didn't see him until his next break-out half a century later after a disturbing meeting with Kouga that had cost Laughlan his virginity forcibly and gotten him sentenced to the tower for a very, very long time. Mukuro had helped him escape, and had sent him looking for Jin, saying that this person would help him escape. At first, Laughlan thought nothing of the name.

He went to Ireland and started looking, and at first, everyone shied away from the subject. When laughlan came across Jin in a bar, Jin was quite friendly with him. Laughlan didn't remember him, and it seemed, Jin didn't remember Laughlan either (though the man seemed half-drunk all the time, Laughlan thought)

At first, it was just chitchat around the bar, but every other person cleared out almost immediately. Laughlan and Jin ended up joking around, and the issues came up about gambling. They decided to see who could outfight, outdrink, and outdance the other. (Ah, half-drunk guys duking it out in the old irish ways).

Laughlan lost to Jin in the two least expected categories, and won in the least expected one, as well. Jin outfought and outdanced Laughlan, but Laughlan outdrank the little wind apparition--even if in the end he was asleep on the bar with him.

As to old Irish custom, the two were picked up and brought back to a friendly Irish home, where they were piled onto a guest bed atop one another. When laughlan woke up, he found himself in a precarious position, and the more he tried to slip out from it, the more precarious it became, until their groins were pressed firmly together and Jin was sleepily licking Laughlan's cheek...

... and then sleepily undressing him...

... and then sleepily... whoa?!

Suffice to say, Laughlan didn't understand at all what happened, except it was much different than the first time. It didn't hurt, and his body wasn't screaming "No" but just the opposite.. His only complaint was that he thought Jin was sleeping--what if he woke up? And then, the feeling came.

Jin marked him. In demon culture, biting one on the collarbone--or marking them-- is a sign of choosing a life-long mate, and Laughlan couldn't take that back--someone would see it, and he would surely be in trouble. The concern faded from his mind, but Jin kept up until finally, they were hollered at to get moving, and Jin got up and got dressed as if he had been awake the entire time--because the little sneak had been!

Laughlan followed him out, too confused at what had happened to be angry. After a brief chat, Laughlan was kidnapped back to home during a walk through the nearby forest. He was stuck in the tower and punished for his infidelity for many years. He wrote a letter that he was able to send to Kiron in hopes it would find Jin, but instead it found Mukuro... When Mukuro saw it, she was enraged, and she blew the castle into the dirt in her anger after freeing Laughlan from it.

He went back to Ireland, but for a while could not find Jin. When they finally met up, Laughlan found Jin as Lord of Ireland, fully prepared to try for Laughlan's hand.

"Why'd you do all this, anyway? Why did that happen, in the house, after the bar?"

" 'Cause I knew I loved you from the first time I laid eyes on you, when I saw you fighting that hanyou boy and got my chance to touch you by saving you."
