I think this is pretty good for your first attempt! May I ask what tutorial you learned from? I've been trying to learn some more of my own.
Thanks and keep it up!

Maxing every setting doesn't mean you'll get magnificent results in decent time. I hope you are using vray lights as well as vray materials. I like the shadows, but caustics looks strange (few dots across the scene).
Was it 4h render time for above resolution (1254x976)?

[link] probably best tutorial for starters in vray. I also recommend finding & reading vray manual.

I love the honey color of the model - very rich. I don't know the first thing about V-ray, but I do think that the only way to truly master something is to do it over and over and over again, and always keep exploring.
...and, in my opinion, don't worry about doing things the "right" way. The only question that matters is "does it look cool?"

Well, it's really good as a first try on Vray. Congrats ^_^
Vray engine is the common engine on high quality 3D Max renders (as it's the facto standard on photorrealistic architecture interiors, for an instance), so you can easily surpass any 3D Max designer if you manage to get a streamlined workflow on Cinema 4D and VRay (believe me, Cinema 4D is far more user-friendly than 3D Max, and you get quicker and tidier results)
So, good luck, you've got good knowledge base with this, now it's only getting the hang of it ^_^
