Description
Ezra needed to gear up and prepare for whatever awaited him that was scratching up Cara and causing general mischief. He stopped at the Nook because it was on his way, wanting to say hello to his friends and Mama Alma, and ask about that Eudora who Old Man Gill had told him about. With her location in hand, he could go on his mission and then stop by and visit her afterward.

Unfortunately it seemed that his journey was going to be a little longer and a little less straightforward than planned. As he entered the Nook, he heard a horrible shriek. He and several others nearby went dashing toward it (while some of the more timid wynglings ran away to hide). In an egg nursery room, where eggs in various bassinets and blanket nests enjoyed a cozy environment while waiting to hatch, a scared looking wyngling was clinging to a concerned looking biped he'd not met before, and Alma was dashing toward the window. The rocking chair was empty but faintly rocking, as though it had been hastily abandoned.

"They've gone that way!" Alma cried, pointing. "I can't quite make out the form... but who or whatever it is, they've got the egg!"

Ezra crossed the room to stand at her side and look in the direction she pointed. "Someone took an egg?!"

The wyngling, who'd been quiet while their adult friend made soothing sounds, spoke up. "I came in to rock in the rocking chair, and I heard a sound, and there was something scary by one of the eggs, and, and it grabbed it up, and then it smiled at me, and the smile was really mean, and it went that way!" The tiny claw pointed to the window. The wyngling buried their face in their older companion's leg, who in turn knelt to hug the little one close.

"I think..." Ezra strained his eyes after the swiftly disappearing figure, "I think it's a spite."

Alma gasped, and so did Kin, to think a spite had been so close to Shaikes- even though it was awful the creature had taken an egg, at least it hadn't harmed the wyngling while it was there.

Ezra had another job to do, but there was no way he could just do nothing while a spite made off with an egg after terrifying a wyngling and upsetting Mama Alma. He was going to have to chase that thing down, and get that egg back.

Ezra jumped out the open window and took off after the disappearing figure.
