'Nother pet peeve of mine.SOOO many people have LOOOONG fanfics that makes up 99.9% of their deviations.

EDIT: I changed it because apparently i wasnt thinking about people who write. I personally believe that fanfics arent art, yet writing is an art. Took out "fanfics arent art. they dont belong on an art site" for those who were offended. my goal is to make stamps that people will generally enjoy, based on their opinions; my sincerest appologies to those i offended

Before all else, I respect your opinion.
So their are people who consider it an art and people who don't. And I agree. Artist's who write/draw fanfiction/fanarts should not only focus on fanfiction/fanart. It is an artists job to be as diverse, imaginative, creative, and exploratory as humanly possible. Fanart should not be the only thing in our galleries. But, that in no way means they are not an art.
And what about people who draw fanart. Are you saying that fanfiction is not an art but fanart is? So basically it's okay to draw it but not write it, right? This is the bit that offends me and possibly every other writer that see's this stamp. Is this merely a way to state that writing is not as artistic or as good as drawing? Why is it that people whom write and people whom draw are not seen as equals? Why is one form of art 'better' or 'more popular' than another? If you don't like fanfiction, fine. I've got no problem with that. But really, that does not give you the right to tell someone to leave because they do.
Art is not something that should be narrowed down or summarized. It is a vast multitude of things and holds different meanings to different people. One way or another, if it holds a meaning - a sense of self-expression - it is art. No matter what people may say.

To me its like drawing a photo of batman and then changing it a little bit. That art is still not yours, it is? who owns batman? not you, right? if your on dA make some original art.

I think very short ones are fine, like a short story, but super long ones? No. I agree that it is not art. They didn't create the plot, the characters, the setting, etc. They should write something orginal.

I support fanfics on Deviantart, though no one will read them here so FF.net is a better place, but it's silly to write long fics here.

I am planning on putting a long fanfic on here. But since 99% of my stuff is actual art I don't think that should be much of a problem. Writing is art and you need to write to make a fanfic. But whatever. Your opinion but I don't fully agree. But I at least respect you have a different opinion.

All forms of self expression is art. Most Fan fictions are self expression and therefore art.

I hate it when people try to narrow down the meaning of "art" to exclude types of it that they don't like.
I've heard photography isn't art, writing isn't art, anime isn't art, fanfiction isn't art, pixel-art isn't art, anthro isn't art, creating textiles isn't art, etc.
And yet, deviantART encompasses all these things into the site which categories for each of them, including fan-fiction. Keep in mind this is the most popular art website, with more than 60 million submissions.
It's fine to dislike something, but to go as far as saying people who take the time, effort, and creativity to write a fictional story, based on a pre-existing storyline or not, need to post their stuff somewhere else because you don't think it qualifies as "art", is highly disrespectful and quite a twisted view on the community aspect of this website.
And this is coming from someone who has never read or written fan-fictions.

What, exactly, is art to you, then? Art to me is something that requires creativity. Fan fiction, or at least good fan fiction, does require creativity. Thus, making it art.

But still, not every fanfic is bad. Just becuase the majority of them probably are, doesn't mean you have to assume all of them are.

Yeah. I really don't know of many places where you can read quality fanfic.
One of the artists I watch here has a site with some absolutely incredible Sonic stuff. But, that's about all I know. :/
