Description Katie's longsword, in the new medieval scabbard I made for it. The liner is fiberglass, as I re-used the one that came with the sword. The cover is a leather remnantthat happened to be long enough, and has a really neat sort of color and texture. The tip is the one that came on the sword originally, but I did a salt process patina on it, so it better matched the scabbard, and was more ranger-like- as in "not shiny"~ Finally, the belt is integral to the scabbard, and is in the medieval style. This is different from those in the movie, as this is a longsword, not a single handed arming-type sword. Oh- and the sword is a Tinker-Hanwei bastard sword blunt. The hilt will be re-done, at some time in the future. I may patina this one, just to make it look older and well-used.

Thank you! It was an interesting experiment, getting all the twists and turns figured out.

And, of course- right after I finished it, I found a "how-to" with great drawings. That is how is usually happens for me~

Thanks! First time in about 20 years I've done one like that. It was an "experience" trying to remember how it was done... The underlayment is a fiberglass scabbard- which I was not prepared for! Still, once I got a couple of "washers" down in it glued in place- it worked great. Without them, the thing rattles horribly... But- looking down from the throat- you can't tell at all, because I put leather down inside a good 10-15 cm.

I would have never thought of fiberglass. The rare occasions when I make scabbards are usually wood wrapped in leather or simply hardened leather shaped directly over the blade.

Mine too. This was what Hanwei supplied, and it fit, so I stuck with it. It has a taper, and once it was wrapped, it looks fine. Won't have nay issues with shrinkage or warping, at least! I don't think I can get the same stuff, so my sheaths are leather, scabbards are wood or plywood~

No, not really. My friend sent me a photo, and I went from there. My pics are more clear, overall. I'll see if I can find the other amongst the detritus of emails in my computer- but you'll need to remind me in a couple of days!

Thanks! It was fun figuring out how to make it look like the pictures, let me tell ya!

Even worse- AFTER I finished, a friend sent me a tutorial a guy made years ago... AT least I was almost exactly the same as his!

HA! There's a saying I once heard, well, more of question actually, that goes "Why does life have to be so ironic?". I feel like it applies here. XD

But still, awesome work. And the fact that you got it almost perfect, without any sort of aid, is pretty impressive in itself
