"What are you doing?" said the interpreter, a mountain elf under the service of the drow city state of Negeémiliel.

"...what?" said the mercenary who was to be her bodyguard.

"You are loading your crossbow!" the interpreter pointed out, with frustration. She knew that no matter how many seals of the Negeémi government she had, often the dark elves immediatly discarded her orders and opinions, so often all this sort of interactions where more trying to convince, rather than make the dark elves follow her orders.

"...your point being?" said the mercenary, as she finished.

"Aren't we here, at this cave, to meet the ambassadors from the surface?!"

"Exactly." said the mercenary, aiming to the opening of the cave for a brief moment, taking an imaginary shot. "I will shot them just as they enter the cave, before their puny surface eyes are used to the darkness."

"We Are Supposed to MEET the ambassadors! Not shoot bolts at them!" Negeémiliel had been able to grow beyond simply raiding the surface, holding some key outposts. But to keep them -unlike raiding-, there was diplomacy to be done. The Mountain elves -being a mountain elf herself, she knew-, neither liked the drow. So these meetings needed to be frecuent. And every time it was as painful to do.

Too many dark and mountain elves felt it was much more simple to just wage war and raid each other, than this diplomatic dance.

"Oh." said the drow, understanding. "So we are shooting them at their back, after the meeting?"

"NO SHOOTING!" hissed the interpreter.
