Description

When the Ignacian forces of the Gastronomic Empire invaded Ruhenian in the Second Wilzcroiser War (3195 a.a.H), in the 30 aniversary since the First Wilzcroiser War, the General Staff underestimated the Ruhenian Armed forces, forgetting the victories of the small Ruhenian army against Motzabili, Anglasecuarnia and themselves.

While the Ignacian General Staff took into account the roughed terrrain and mountains, natural defenses of Ruhenia, they only did so reinforcing the invasion army numerically. With the best Ignacian divisions fighting in the War of Kagastan, the large invasion army was mostly compossed of recruits, ill trained and equipped for the task ahead.

The Ruhenian army, relatively small in front of the invasion force -about 5 to 1- had to it's dispossal defensive networks of fortifications, adventage on terrain -and training for fighting in such- and while lacking in artillery, armored vehicles and aircrafts numerically, they professional soldiers where well trained and motivated, and their equipment had been recently modernized -unlike much of the Ignacian one originally asigned for the campaign, equipped with weapons no longer deemed useful for frontline use in the War of Kagastan-.

Most of the Ruhenian soldiers weren't professionals, but reservists: but that continued and updated their military training yearly, being many of the reservists formations composed by veterans.

This would turn to be an unpleasant surprise for the Ignacian invasion, who hoped to steamroll the Ruhenians, facing only a simbolic resistence:

The initial invasion will be stopped in Wilzcroiser in the fortified line of Montagstag -and later, in the Oswald Line of forts-, and the allied Anglasecuarnian invasion actually faired worse -suffering the Caliphate forces two decisive defeats that will knock them out for the rest of the war.

Due these unexpected failures, the General Staff will decide to extend the war -invading the ally of Ruhenia, Slavkinia, along with the Slavkinian colonies in Zarhuy- and to proceed to attack Ruhenia from Calintropia, Motzabili and Cyrvia -who had agreed for the Ignacians to use their territories to launch an invasion.-

Ruhenia was effectively surrounded and attacked on all fronts -but they kept fighting-, while the war in Slavkinia became it's own mess. This will drag the attention of Bazikstan -the long time enemy of the Gastronomic Empire-, who will proceed to provide supplies and support -and even a small expeditionary force in the Slavkinian front.

In the end, The Gastronomic Empire will achieve victory, annexing Ruhenia, the Slavkinian colonies and one third of Slavkinia: but it was a costly, phyrric victory: as Ruhenian holdouts refused the annexion of Ruhenia, they will continue to fight a guerrilla campaign in the new Imperial Province -and conquer the island of Mercania in the Caritz sea, proclaiming a new, independent Ruhenian realm, Südchristophenia-.

Really this was only a quick warmup sketch and nothing more : U
Hope you like it, nevertheless!

This reminds me of the Serbian campaigns during the First World War. The Gastronomic Empire reminds me of the Austro-Hungarian Empire stumbling against the Serbians.

Nice, gritty close up!

Good information about Ruhenia.  Is it like the Aiers equivalent of Switzerland?
