Description

Using some pliers to pick the hot metal, a spade for a plow, she manipulated the metal, making it sing with her hammer.

The Blacksmith was concentrated in her work, so she didn't noticed the new dog of her son to decide to make her company, lying down behind her.

She was going to put the metal back in the forge, when she stumbled in the dog, who cried as she stood on his tail.

"ODGARK!!! YOUR STUPID DOG! I WANT IT OUT OF MY WORKSHOP!!" yelled the kanov blacksmith, angrily, kicking the dog outside.

"You don't need to kick him!" protested her son, comming quickly from the house in the search of his dog.

Once finally the impasse was solved, the blacksmith returned to her work... but soon, again, she sensed that damn dog in her workshop, standing by her side.

Ready to kick again outside that stupid dog, the kanov woman turned.

but instead of the dog, there was a little girl, looking at her with big curious eyes and wagging a tail. She was some sort of... faun? but wolf?

"What are you doing?" she asked.

"Working" said the blacksmith. "And this is no place for kids. Go play somewhere else" she said abruptly.

"Oh! I know this was your store, my dear Agrasnk!" said somebody, entering in the workshop. She knew that voice, but hadn't heared it for some years.

"Bog?" she said, recognicing the barbarian, who was dragging along from his arm a one-legged skinny human boy, who upon seing the forge and red hot metals panicked, trying to struggle away.

"The very same, legendary Bog the Barbarian!!"

"I didn't buy the crap you called back then loot, and I will not buy it now. I sell, not buy! And I sell nails, tools and
horseshoes, not weapons. And less enchanted weapons!" warned in beforehand the kanov blacksmith, Agransk.

"Oh, couldn't I just come to say hi to my old friends?" said Bog, while the crippled boy tried to free himself from his grip, and the small half-faun-wolf-or-something girl was exploring her workshop. "How is little Odgark? I saw him in the yard some seconds ago. He is really looking like his father!"

"And by that you mean my husband. Is that clear?!" warned Agransk. Some secrets are better to stay secret. "If you only come to say hi, and not buy anything, I need go back to work. We can meat later after dusk, but now I'm busy"

"Oh! But I have something for you!" said Bog

"And what will that be?" asked Agransk, looking at the skinny human boy, begging that they don't burn him again his face, that he didn't meaned, that somebody named Pumori was guilty, that he didn't teached that Pumori person any word...

"I bring you an Apprentice for your workshop!" he said triumphant.

"I'm not hiring. Or getting useless slaves."

"I'm no slave!" protested the boy.

"Don't offend me! I'm not enslaving or selling as slave anybody! Is just that while adventuring, I have found in this town a very fine, but needy, blacksmith apprentice, so I thought of a good deed for my old friend Agransk, and bring her such useful helper!" Bog said, smiling.

"I live in this town, idiot" said the Kanov woman. "I have seen him. He is one of the many beggars of the town. And he is a thief. He got the mark in his face, burned by hot iron."

"The mark of a tief? You are mistaked Agransk! He is not a tief, but destiny have make him a beggar. Is so terrible the destiny! A promissing apprentice of Blacksmith, who was unlucky of suffering an occupational accident! The Blacksmith's workshop of his family, where he worked, collapsed. He lost his leg there, and... some hot irons fall in his face!" lied Bog.

"What is you idea, anyway?" asked Agransk, but now smiling.

"...well... the little urchin have been causing me problems. So I think it will be a good vengance having to work with you."

"So now vengance is looking for your enemies some hot food, clothing, work and housing?" said Agransk, looking at the skinny boy.

"Well. Look at him! I can't hit him without breaking him!" said Bog. He wouldn't recognice he was trying to help. He had a reputation!

"...I'm no charity, you know? neither an orphanage" said Agransk.

"The problem with this town is that no one are both" said Bog. "Couldn't you get him as apprentice?"

Agransk, the kanov blacksmith, thought for a moment. Her situation wasn't very good, and the needs of her family where first. But she had a better situation than the poor people of the town.

"... if he had some skills, and both legs, maybe" she said. "but he doesn't have neither. In a blacksmith you need strength."

"Come on. He can do something! No one ever level up in his skills if no one give them quests!" said Bog

"Uh? You mean, like that if you need experience get work, and work to get experience, you will never go anywhere?"

"Yeah. That" said Bog.

Agransk didn't know what an uneducated, unskilled, crippled child beggar can do... but she had some debts in her past with Bog.

She looked at the crippled boy.

"What's your name?"

"...Oyvald" he said. He wasn't sure about that brute called Bog or the amenacing looking woman... but it seemed they weren't going to burn or maim him...

"Would you like to get a soup, some clothes and a roof where to sleep?"

"Yes?"

"In exchange, you will be expected to work" said Agransk. Her cold eyes where as well warning him and if I catch you stealing anything I will cut and make you eat your other leg. "I don't think you can help much in the forge. But maybe I can get you some work with other of the guild of artisans."

"I... think?"

Agransk didn't had much faith in the beggar, crippled boy. She didn't know what Bog had seen in him.

Oyvald didn't had much faith in any of this, doubting it will work. But at least he will get some food today, a roof and maybe some clothes... it was almost like if he had succeded in stealing the gold of that brute and his half-werewolf pet!

_____________________________________________

"Leaving the town?"

"The adventure calls me!" answered Bog to Agransk, the next morning.

"So. What with the little girl?" the kanov pointed to the half-werewolf girl. "You also want that I take her as an apprentice or something? I don't think she is good for adventures."

"Pumori? Oh! You will be surprised! It results she is a very succesful hunter! She is a very independent little girl." Bog said.

"And where did you find her?"

"Well. I didn't" said Bog. "It was in some forests of Polforia, where her clan lives. She sort of tags along, following me." he raised his shoulders.

Agransk looked worried to the little half-werewolf girl, who was eating some raw meat she have give her as breakfast. "For how long?"

"I don't know... three? four months? After she take the bird I hunted, she have been around." said Bog.

"...well... have you think maybe she keeps following you, because she doesn't know how to return home?"

"...no?" said, a bit perplexed Bog. He turned to Pumori, speaking to the half-werewolf girl. "Say... uh. Pumori. Do you know how to return home?"

"To mommis house? and with mommi and daddi and lillebro?"

"Yes?"

She think for a moment, sniffing the air. Really, everything was different.

"No" Pumori finally said, looking to Bog.

"Dammit!" cursed Bog.

Bog--just full of optimism! Far, far more kind hearted than he might seem! Not the smartest guy around though, having a little girl tagging along with him all this time.

Pumori's father will likely rip him apart! "It's OK! The girl has become the understudy of the Legendary Bog the Barbarian!" he might say. Yes. as I imagined, the girl's werewolf father will likely tear him apart!

Oh, Bog's got nothing to worry about from Pumori's father - he's much too busy caring for his mate, she's just given birth to their third child.

He might want to worry a bit about Freya, Pumori's aunt, though - she's on Pumori's (and Bog's) trail instead her brother. In fact, he might even wish it was just Pumori's father that was on his trail instead, Freya's nickname isn't Bonebreaker for no reason - [link]

larqven In reply to kanyiko [2012-06-15 20:41:55 +0000 UTC]

I wouldn't be surprised if Bog attempts to "get Lucky" with Freya for that matter? It would be only natural given his track record--and record of success I might add!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

kanyiko In reply to larqven [2012-06-15 20:55:44 +0000 UTC]

Dunno how 'lucky' he would be - Freya left her youngest litter - just a couple of weeks old - with Lindsey when she left on the hunt for Pumori (imagine the scene - Lindsey (human) getting three cubs (Wolf-hybrid) pushed in her hands, with the instructions "just suckle them when they're hungry"). She'd most likely scoff at his attempted approach, before punching his lights out

Mind you, Bog's track record has gotten rather patchy ever since Pumori appeared - [link] & [link]

On the other hand, maybe it would be even worse for him if he did succeed in persuading him. Freya's very much a dominant Alpha-bitch, and it might come as a real shock to Bog if she did get it in her mind to get a litter off him. Once she has her mind onto something, she won't quit until she gets it. He might be left running for dear life, for the rest of his life...

Well, he's good at bedding women, and getting them with child in the bargain! Adaptability clearly is one of his strengths!

It speaks volumes that he leaves behind all these illegitimate children, and these mothers don't hate him! helping produce some half lycanthrope Bog-spawn is something that Bog could do!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

kanyiko In reply to larqven [2012-06-17 09:34:41 +0000 UTC]

Bog might have some other things going against him, though. He isn't to know, but Freya has some... personal history, some unpleasant things that happened to her (which could only happen to a female - that's all I'm going to say about that). It does explain some of her agressive behaviour, though, she doesn't want what happened to her, happen to her niece - or any female for that part. And for the same reason, she only sees the worst in someone like Bog...

Wow! Bog's got his work cut out for him! Best hope that he's really a high level adventurer! I can't help but think that teaming up with him didn't do Maylara or Neroe any good other than get them enslaved!

Of course, Pumori is his best advocate--but Freya might not much care what the little girl says in his support given the time and trouble to hunt her down!

kanyiko In reply to larqven [2012-06-15 21:00:23 +0000 UTC]

It's the first thing that I thought when it turned out that Pumori had run along with Bog. Somewhere in the back of my mind, I already had images of Pumori, kept in some kind of cage or in shackles as some kind of pet, after Bog had conveniently managed to 'lose' her somewhere.

Turns out that it's Bog instead who's been on the receiving end of a lot of bad luck, sometimes after wel-meant but unintentionally bad calls by Pumori.

Sure, Pumori loves her Uncle Wolf, but I think it might be even worse for him if the little she-wolf would ever have to advocate Bog's case. With her short-tempered aunt Freya, Bog's fate might well be sealed the moment Pumori opens her mouth and starts saying what the Barbarian taught her...

(Also, thank goodness it was just a kiss Odgark and Bogilla shared...!! o_o )

One unexpected, rare act of kindness from Bog, though, I had expected him to do far worse things with Oyvald. Something in the boy must remind him of something...

And Pumori! Poor thing, she's really lost now...

Pumori lives somewhere in the regions to the west of Mondwargh, in Polforia. Then, following Bog, they crossed Mondwargh, Polforia to Dbejor, then Kanovait and StapΓ€ria. There was the city where Oyvald live. Odgark is still a rather young boy, only some five years old or so.

Bogilla meanwhile lives in Fornhost! XD
I should make the journies of my characters clearer, I guess

No, no, don't get confused there! This is outher town! Bogilla lives in Fronhost... Meanwhile this town is to the southeast!

Not close, so is other blacksmith son!

As fact, Odgark is rather young. The city where Oyvald

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

kanyiko In reply to Shabazik [2012-06-15 14:52:25 +0000 UTC]

Oh my, that makes it a whole lot clearer!! For a moment I thought... But of course every town has its blacksmith, and every blacksmith family must have a blacksmith son...

It does mean that Bog decided to take the long road, though - didn't he want to go to BrΓ»m when he met Mina? Instead, he's travelled all the way in the other direction - away from BrΓ»m!

It looks as though Pumori's become well travelled, though - she'd never been more than a day's travel from her home before meeting Bog, and she's certainly never seen other towns - any towns before in her life. Nor had she seen any other persons before, other than her mother and her aunt Freya in her person form (she's never seen her father in any other form than his Werewolf one).

And so now they've started to loop back from StapΓ€ria towards... Polforia? Or is Bog headed somewhere else instead? Anyway, they must now either be in Fornhost, since that is where the two werewolf girls were last time we met them. Or have they already travelled through towards their native territory of Wildnacht?

Either way, Freya's already made it towards Fornhost, where she's made herself an enemy in Ugrunt. Yet another one. Freya doesn't really seem to believe much in making friends, she only appears to have relatives, live enemies and dead enemies. But then again, the Clan of the White Fang is known for its agressive behaviour, especially "Bonebreaker" Freya and her sons..

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Shabazik In reply to kanyiko [2012-06-15 17:14:02 +0000 UTC]

Well, for the BrΓ»m business, he travelled a bit with them, going back, basically. As said in other occasion, Bog doesn't travel in a defined way. He do circles, so going back to BrΓ»m didn't affected his lack of plans! XD

He traves instead of I in S. Or even in U or O XD

For Bog and Pumori, they already crossed Fornhost, but he didn't stopped there, being in Wildnacht. From there, he plan to cross the mountains to go to Polforia, and more specific, where Pumori found him!. :3

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

kanyiko In reply to Shabazik [2012-06-15 18:53:23 +0000 UTC]

Knowing Bog, then, he might not necessarily take the shortest route - especially with those mountains in his way. Heh, I wouldn't even be half surprised if his idea of a 'shortest route' over the mountains would involve a detour all the way to NegΓ©e and back... XD

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Shabazik In reply to kanyiko [2012-06-18 17:59:27 +0000 UTC]

Theorically, yes.

In a practical way, no:

After the Great war of the Power (and the first one of what will be 3 bloody wars), which happened about 200 years ago -the world where my characters lives is coming closer and closer to the second Great War of the Power- the great demon lords of the Dark Legion where banished... and what really remains are scattered remanents of the Dark Legion:

the minor demons who in the moment weren't considered dangerous enough to be exiled back to the Mount Demonach by the triumphant Whide Axis Empire and the human kingdoms:

So for about 200 years, these minor demon kingdoms where remanents of the Dark Legion, but while they claimed to be the rightful sucessors of it, they really lacked coherence, and often fighted more each other, rather than other enemies.

The Nigromancer of Tok-Thoria, the witch king of Dolnur and many others where before minor demons... but during this time, they builded their own powers, and claims as sucessors of the Dark Legion.

So, while he was a Half-orc soldier of the Dark Legion, he was first a soldier of the Nigromante of Tok-Thoria... meanwhile, the other remanents of the Dark Legion had their own interests (for example, the werewolves of Mondwargh by then where basically independent, but claimed to be the dark legion. As the demon lord of entartea, and others!)

So no, he didn't fought alongside werewolves back then. The army of the Nigromante lacked units of werewolves, being the backbone first Kanov mercenaries and pirates, and slowly, he breeded his Koktos, the black orcs of Tok-Thoria, who where supported by ogres, while demons where rather short in his personel. :3

So sad to hear the Second Coming of Darkness is approaching - with Lindsey and Fergal (and their little family) living in Polforia on Aels, they would be awfully close to where it will all begin. If the Great War of Power ended about 200 years ago, that would mean the Second War will erupt in about ten years time - or even less! And unfortunately both Lindsey and Pumori are very human in nature (less so in Pumori's case), so it's certain they will not live to see the war's end.

I do hope that nothing bad happens to Pumori, but after the reaction of the Wildnacht Elder... I don't think she will find any protection with any of the Werewolf nations, as they see her as some kind of abomination...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Shabazik In reply to kanyiko [2012-06-18 23:56:09 +0000 UTC]

yes... war is coming, and will be long and bloody... and only the terrible war of the four kings, a civil conflict of sucession between the demons, will put an end to the second war... until the dark legion is strong enought for the third and final war of the Power!

And as well, the werewolves don't like in general the hibrids... but luckily, while the dark legion in general is defined itself as the free peoples, enemies of humans, humans of the dark legion are considered other people composing them -as the kdaimon, nutks and amazons- so is not so terrible for the little family. Hopefully! !

kanyiko In reply to Shabazik [2012-06-19 06:56:56 +0000 UTC]

Actually, I just realised - it won't make much difference to Lindsey and Fergal, their main concerns have always been 1) having enough food to make sure the family's able to survive; 2) bringing up the kids; and 3) not getting killed by any rogues or bandits or so. Exactly the same priorities as when there would be a war on, so the war itself wouldn't bring that much of a change.

I'm wondering, though: how old do their species become, though? I just realised: Lindsey's a quarterblood or so Elf (three quarters human), so maybe (if she doesn't get herself killed) she can get a good old age. And I don't know how old Werewolves can be...

That said... *sigh* Pumori's just one face among the masses, so it's unlikely she's destined to anything great, especially with her 'heritage'...

There is a difference: during war times, with armies marching, there are less food, as the forraging parties look for food -or raid local farms-, and many times deserters will go to ticker the lines of bandits and rogues! D:!

Very true, unfortunately - Lindsey better keep exercising her archery! It's also an added problem for Pumori - by then, she'll have had her first litter herself, so she'll not only have to fend for herself, but for her cubs too!

Of course, all of that isn't a worry for them yet - while the war might be coming, it still is a couple of years away. I guess Pumori's more busy making friends right now with the members of the Wildnacht clan (and learning things from them?), while Lindsey's more busy worrying over Pumori, and worrying over Pumori's new brother(s)/sister(s)(?) which are about to be born...
