He was painted by hand in Photoshop CS2 (using two brushes, hard round and slimmed), slowly trying to use my poor brain to determine the values in the piece.
I'm not sure how well I did really. I think he's marginally ok but really a lot more work could be done with the values....I can SEE how dark and light colours are but my brain seems to have real trouble translating this over to er paper. So I end up saying to myself 'Make the darks darker and the lights lighter' over and over and over again and gently trying to push myself into applying that affirmation.
I'm so obsessed with colour lately that in the end I couldn't resist throwing some in!!!
I've spent the last five days working on this and have really, really enjoyed it. I found it very peaceful to work on.
I'll be back with a Ol Blue eyes Version two once I get some feedback

I am quite happy with his man-stubble. For anyone else attempting stubble who hasn't done it before; No, there is no shortcut for stubble. I looked online and anything I found was rubbish. YAY FOUR HOURS OF STUBBLE WHEEEE
Rain texture in this piece by: When I saw it, I just thought it was perfect for that 'Sin City' look! Wanted to give it a bit of a film noir feel, but with a touch of colour.

I love pretty much everything in this piece. The stubble has the right texture, our beloved Cas has just the right expression and the shading makes his skin soft but also believable. I like the inclusion of the wrinkles, too, as this shows attention to detail. The rainy background adds sympathy to his confused look.
The best part of this picture, in my opinon is how his eyes are the only part in colour. Of course Misha/Cas' eyes are famously VERY blue and the colour helps to highlight his personality and innocence as the character. The only improvement points that could be made are a teeny bit less shading on the left side of the face as it makes it seem a bit like he has more stubble there than he does. Also the right eye seems like it could be opened a bit more, or slanted a little more upwards from the right corner as i think the eyes are a little bit out of line, but that could just be me e.deviantart.net/emoticons/a/a… " width="19" height="19" alt="

Wow.... I just did a side by side with the reference and... wow... You did a great job! The eyes go without even saying. I actually love the shading and shadows on his face. Gives it depth!

You're dead right Kitteh, the lips AREN'T as finished as the rest... because I just didn't know what I was doing with them! Lips are my problem area. I spend hours staring at them wondering how to make them look soft!!! Lol, when I'm painting I mean.
