Oh, the creativity of the title.My entry for 's Febryary contest which was not only another lovely limited colour palette but also "draw an underrated Pokemon" contest. There were quite a few Pokemon I personally don't like at all on the list and I made a difficult decision between Magmortar and Rhyperior. Magmar line has never been my favourite, Magby is ugly but Magmar is actually quite cool. Magmortar on the other hand...he scores high on my "Most Hideous Pokemon In Existense" list. So. Damn. UGLY. Rhyperior is hideous and even though he is pretty strong I think he ruins the line by being so ugly. I ended up with Magmortar simply because I hate it more and I wanted to challenge myself.
I shole the colour palette labeled "Innocent tease" and I picked a palette that allowed a lot of contrast. I know I should practise using lighter tones but it's either ugly Pokemon OR light colours, I can't do both.
To be honest, I'd like Magmortar a lot more if he was something like this. The sprite art is just...ugh.

Probably. It is ugly bute I've got so used to it that tbh it doesn't really bother me. I've seen some really cool interpretations of Jynx before, too.

Very nice! You made his head in particular look very cool! I'm quite into magmortar at the moment having used one in a replay of Platinum version recently... Anyways, I think making his body less round, as you have done, is a good way of making it look better too

Magmortar is the only Pokemon I like out of the entire Magby line. I think part of it is because I'm a Megaman fan so when I see something with arm cannons I'm like 'awesome!" I also get more attached to a Pokemon when I'm forced to use it. My most hated Pokemon would have to be Machamp.

I've heard a lot of people say they like Magmortar because of the cannon arms and I think I can understand that. Also, I agree with you. I think I'd learn to appreciate Magmortar (or any other Pokemon I despise) if I was forced to use them (for example in a Nuzlocke run).
I've never liked Machamp either although it is pretty strong and fun to use in Battle Factory.

Anyways, I love the way used colors in this one, those shades of light blue do a really nice job in contrasting all the warm colors! and you made his design way cooler instead of his usual ugly-as-fuck self!

Magby isn't ugly! He's one of the most adorable Pokemon ever invented! (sorry, just spewing my opinion 
I've always thought Magmar was kinda cool but Magmortar is just.....one of the reasons I hate the 4th generation.....
This does look good though and is certainly an improvement of Magmortar's hideous design.

In my opinion 4th gen has a lot or terrible evos. I think they're the reason it's my least favourite gen although there are cool Pokemon, too.
