Okay, before I start babbling about this pic, I´ll let you know that this is my first gryphon ever. Okay, THIRD and First ever finished. The two gryphon sketches I´ve drawn earlier were so ugly that I threw them away. Honestly. Another one didn´t have tail, legs or even beak and the other one looked something like donkey´s and chiken´s crossing.. So, this is my first gryphon, that´s why the title is like that. First flight of the first gryphon drawn by me.I started working this last night because I couldn´t sleep. I think my best ideas pop out during night, at least some of the outcomes look pretty good. I like this one very much, not only because this is my first gryphon, also that´s why I think it looks pretty good. The pose might be as trite as christmas ham during this time of year, but I like it.
As well known, scanners hate monochrome pics. I hope you can deal with the quality.
And now I ask you, beg you to say something about this pic! I really want to know what people think about this. Any critique is more than welcome. If you fav this I´d be curious to know why you faved it. Say anything you like, but please say something.

One question; do you have any tips for me? I'm studying art and I still can't draw a thing! Only decent picture I've ever been really really proud of on this course is one of Tony Kakko and Elia Viljanen. But I've not finished it yet, even after like 14 hours. >__<

It's hard to say anything detailed since the question wasn't very detailed either, butif I only understood right I know what to say.
I think you're doing very well with your art study. Thigns don't always come out as you want them to and being goot at drawing requires a lot of practising, more practising and even more drawing. I've drawn since I just could hold a pencil in my hand and just drew and now I'm at this point. It might take a long time to improve, but if you work for it, you'll be eventually rewarded.
Using references is a good way to learn how to draw things. For example I sometimes use different pictures of animals to find out how the anatomy goes in more difficult poses and such. It really is useful. And evetually I donät even need the references because I already have learned how to do things.
I don't know what to tell more, but I think those are the very basic things.

Thank you very much... sadly all I can claim to have achieved is getting a little better at copying, I've not done really any decent original work. -.-
I've never drawn all that much. Maybe because of the way families work out. My brother is a great musician, the other an amazing artist. So I never really liked to do those things because I always came second. I write, but pah, what's writing but some personal little thing to be hidden away? Drawing and music, they're both beautiful and easy to appreciate. Writing takes too much effort. So anyway... I can't exactly claim to have been drawing ever since I remember. I really wish I could, I wish I was better. -.-
I'm trying to practise, but it's hard when on deviantart there are so many of you amazing artists! I love to see all your work, and now I can never equal it, it's just too awesome!

You said I can ask another question, so, er... do you have any tips on drawing people? Because I can't draw them and it's sucky. -/-

And I think you also can draw, I see you have skills. You should just practise more if you want to be better, it takes time, but eventually hard work pays back. It is worth it.
Bealieve me, I share those feelings too. Sometimes I'm very unsure about posting anything, because there are so many deviants that are waaaay better than me. But knowing that even few people actually like my art gives me strenght to continue with dA.
Your art is wonderful, just keep it up!

the feet and arm perspective is unusual, however, there's something soft and powerful that grabs my eye about this picture. My favorite parts are the head and wings

It seems like his wings are coming from his shoulders too far down (like, too far away from his back). But maybe thats personal preference . . . after all, griffins don't exist, so we don't have much to compare to!

Asento on aerodynaaminen ja sulava, tuo häntä vain korostaa valtavien ja kauniiden siipien liikettä <3
..ainut mikä silmään pisti on vasen etujalka, se tuntuu hivenen olevan jotenkin tönkkö. mutta muuten olet onnistunut tässäkin työssä mahtavasti~ <3

Wow, nice pencil work here! For your first completed griffin, I'm very impressed! 
Hmm... for critique, there's really not much I would suggest to improve on... I think the wings might look better as if they were more on the griffin's back, rather than seeming to come out of his sides, and his head could be a little bigger to balance the body.

wow wow wow. i cant get over how amazing this is!! the details in the wings are stunning! so realistic....and the shading is beautiful too and those claws....wow. must be slightly painful pose though since it seems to be standing on its own tail 
and i was actually planning to draw a griffin/dragon at some point too

0_o Amazingly beautiful.
It's got so much detail to it, from the individual shading on the wing feathers to the flow of the hair down its (his? her?) stomach and hind legs. I love the expression as well: that kind of fierce look that's so common to eagles is nailed perfectly here. What a face.
The one piece of crit I have, (and it's minor compared to the talent and detail in this piece) is that the eagle legs seem to be joined a bit stiffly to the body. But, that's just my two cents, and as I said before, this is amazing regardless!
