I'm once again participating the MythicMay challenge organized by Audre Schutte! This year I will just be doing creature designs in the way that feels most natural to me, drawing inspiration from creatures in real life.

Also spelled "leshii", this creature from Slavic folklore is a spirit/demon of the forest. Most often it resembles an old man covered in bark-like, blue-tinged skin and sporting a long, shaggy gray coat of hair (and sometimes horns). This creature is a shape shifter, and is known to trick people into getting lost in the woods by appearing as their companion. It also often takes the shape of a wolf or bear (creatures it has affinity towards). And scale is no hindrance. It can be as small as a flea or taller than the trees of the old forests it lives in and protects.

Leshy is one of my personal favourite myths and I have been dying to draw one. I love the leshen designs from The Witcher but I had so much fun doing my own interpretation. i kind of wanted to give it more details and texture, mossy fur, tree bark etc. but I decided to play with the light and forest atmosphere instead and I think I nailed the feel. I hope you like this giant bear-elk!
