Attempting to title this, I had looked up the tracklist for FFVI's soundtrack for inspiration. I didn't use it, but Terra's theme is "Awakening" and I had forgotten how very pretty it is. So you should look it up!Related content

I always love seeing nods to FFVI. It's still my favorite of the Final Fantasy games. From the story to the characters... and it introduced me to Yoshitaka Amano too.

I always teeter between VI and VII, but yes, it is a lovely game.

VII is better for fanfics due to the HUGE GAPING PLOT HOLES *ahem*. And the characters in both are fantastic. But VI edges it out for me just on account of sheer heart, and the opera don't hurt either.
And then Square went and messed the whole thing up with VIII.

Aha... I didn't mind the "holes" in FFVII at the time, I liked that a lot of it was open-ended. I haven't played it in years though, so maybe I'm being overly generous.
VIII... was great for me until we got to the part where everyone in the game goes "hey, we all grew up together in an orphanage but Guardian Forces gave us amnesia so we forgot!" Sigh.

Oh, the "holes" in VII were an absolute gift to us fanfic writers. So much space to insert stuff to explain the gaps. Sort of made the game more interactive. Plus all the awesome characters and weird little traits, like Hojo being inexplicably popular with the ladies.
VIII...the scene on the Ragnarok made me want to beat Squall with a 2x4. At least the amnesia thing gave Irvine some character beyond "stock womanizing cowboy", as it gave his early actions some meaning. Now if only we could have tossed Rionoa off that train...
