it was intended, I knew such a narrow depth of field would give this result with the nose out of focus and the eyes sharp

Gorgeous! Love the focus and the colours and the composition. It's a little noisy though (which I understand, the light levels were probably quite low when shooting?) try something like 'NeatImage' or NoiseNinja, they're pretty good at getting rid of noise without making it too soft.

Oh no! Please don't do that! A noisy image (especially from DSLR, where it's mostly luminance noise with "nice" structure) is much, much, MUCH better than silky-smooth and detail-free "cute" photo. Your photos are top notch already!

hehe thanks Kerebron, its good to know the software exists but I would always be wary about over-using it, I dislike post-processing enough already

Haha indeed I use NeatImage, only down side is with the free version you can only use jpegs in it. To get TIFFs etc you need to pay for it... :/

I know! Tell me about it! ISO drives me nuts, especially on my camera.
