Description

Made: May 12, 2013
Height: 1.5 inches

These are made from super soft wool blend felt and are one sided. (aka the back is just one color) This set goes with Set 3 so that the narwhals are facing each other. It's perfect for couple keychains (dA or irl) or to simply match with a friend.

These will be available for preorder during my con prep time. You can either pick them up at Otakon if you are going, or they will be shipped right after Otakon (Aug 9-11). After Otakon, I will rarely offer them and will be focusing back on my mohair creations.

Price: each 10 USD
Shipping: (ships 6-8 pieces) 3 USD (domestic)/6.55 USD (international)

I love pastels, but I dunno how many guys would put a pastel narwhal on their manly keys. I just like things in sets though

Yea since I can't make these two sided because of the thickness of the eyes, I figure it would look cute. I was thinking of two pieces of a heart but that might've been a little too cheesy.

I'm glad you like the Riiko. I'm hoping to come up with a large variety of patterns for Otakon

They're so adorable!!! Haha! So cute! xD
I made a whale once out of an old t-shirt and it didn't turn out nearly as cute. lol

Oooooo! Merino! I just realized. O.O
Do you use merino wool often (I know you used a blend, but still! Merino is the good stuff )?

thanks hun! I usually use corriedale wool for needle felting though the green I have is merino. The sweaters I made for two of my mohair dolls were Japanese merino. (And yes merino is the good stuff.)

This felt is so much softer than the stuff you would get in the crafts store (like at Michaels) I like the feel of it when I'm sewing too. Craft felt tends to scratch my skin

So do you tend to get most of your material from Michaels then? I think it's awesome that you use the good stuff for your stuff animals. To me it means you really care about them and you put a lot of effort in them.

And mohair is so soft and wonderful! Does it dye well? I'm pretty sure I remember reading that you dye your own stuff, yeah? Or did I just make that up? xD

And I can definitely understand the craft felt scratching your skin. Cheaper stuff tends to do that, unfortunately.

Do you get your merino online? There's a fiber/textiles fair where I live on Saturday and they'll have angora rabbit, alpaca, and angora goat there. And I think we'll even get to watch them comb or shear a few. I think I'm going to get some alpaca yarn for a scarf.

I don't usually get things from Michaels other than thread and little things. General craft stores don't tend to carry the higher quality stuff, but I feel that it's worth it to use better material. Mohair and other natural fibers tend to dye beautifully (depending on the dye you use. Sometimes dye will come apart over time)

I get my Japanese merino from PurlSoho. It's a store in NYC, but it's about 16-17 USD for 500g. I only go when I visit home. I would love to buy some alpaca yarn. The farm near where I went to school had black alpacas so I couldn't dye it, but the thing that I love about alpaca is it gets softer as you wash it. (I use a gentle detergent for natural fibers)

I actually never got the alpaca yarn. But I wish I had because now I'm trying to learn to knit and all the yarn I have is the kind with little wisps in it or it's really bulky and fluffy. xD

I bet there's all kind of cool fiber/fabric stores in NYC! That would be awesome to see!

You can get really thin "spider web" yarn online for knitting miniature things.
